Wood speaks at Democrat Club picnic

The Moniteau County Democrat Club met Thursday evening at Proctor Park for a hotdog picnic meal prepared by Resa Dudley. Prior to introducing the speaker Dudley read the resolution passed by the California R-1 School Board Wednesday night supporting Governor Nixon's veto of House Bill 253. Their support was based on the impact that the

legislation would have on school funding of almost $800,000 if the veto was overridden by the General Assembly. The club had in the past expressed concern not only on school funding, but the funding of health care, the rise in the cost to seniors for prescription drugs as well as other state services that are part of the bill.

The speaker for the evening was Republican Representative David Wood who represents all of Morgan County, the northern part of Miller and the western part of Moniteau County. Representative Wood did a very good job of explaining the Republican's position to override Governor

Nixon's veto of House Bill 253. A spirited discussion followed his speech. He would not reveal how he intended to vote on the veto override, but it was the general consensus of those attending that he would vote with his party to override the Governor's veto.

Representative Caleb Jones who represents the other half of Moniteau County was invited to attend the meeting but did not respond.
