California Farmers Market committee moves forward for spring

The California Farmers Market committee recently met and discussed the results of the market held in October. This was a trial farmers market and the experience gained was beneficial to the committee in planning and organizing the 2014 farmers market in April. The comments from vendors and customers were reviewed and were helpful in the organization of future markets. Some discussion was held concerning the participation of craft vendors in a market designed to be focused on garden produce. Ten foot spaces will be marked for vendor setups. Vendors may sell from pickup trucks but will be restricted to parking on the north side of the street. Plans for toilet facilities for vendors were discussed, as well as, parking for customers and vendors. The rules and costs for vendors were finalized and are available for study. Provisions will be made to include charitable organizations to hold bake sales and other items. Reservations for a reserved space will be necessary. Signs announcing the time and location of the market will be designed and used to remind customers. Gardeners are being encouraged to plan their 2014 gardens to provide produce and seedlings for selling at the market.

The time and hours will remain the same with Fridays as farmers market day from 4 p.m. - 8 p.m. The committee appreciates everyone who participated in the trial market and contributed information and encouragement to the committee.
