The Twin City Garden Club held its December program along with the annual Christmas party Tuesday, Dec. 10. Members had lunch at Tammy's Restaurant, Centertown. Program ideas for the upcoming 2014 schedule were discussed. New officers were sworn in by club member Gloria Longan. The newly inducted officers will hold their position for a two-year term. They are Melinda Burgoon, president; Dorothy Hughes, vice president; Fran Scallorns, secretary; Nancy Martin, treasurer.

Members and guests in attendance included Gail and Dorothy Hughes, Greg and Gloria Longan, James and Nancy Martin, Neta Dishion, Fran Scallorns and Melinda Burgoon. Also in attendance was one visitor Deanna Distler.

The theme for 2014 is "Making a Difference in our Community." Throughout the upcoming year, the garden club will enjoy special guest speakers, garden tours to various locations, along with other hands-on programs throughout the year.

The TCGC was organized in 1956 and federated in 1957. There are currently 11 members in the central Missouri area. Meetings are normally the second Tuesday of each month. The club is quite active in the community with various projects such as maintaining a perennial bed at Proctor Park; Christmas decorations on the gazebo at Smith-Burke Park; horticulture therapy projects at both California Care Center and Moniteau County Care Center; floral arrangements at the Finke Theater; Arbor Day and Earth Day tree plantings; maintaining a Bluebird Trail; as well as several youth oriented projects such as a high school scholarship program and grade school poetry contest. In addition to membership dues, the TCGC has a plant sale in both the spring and the fall in an effort to help support these community activities.
