Felony abuse through forced labor charge filed
A felony charge has been filed in Moniteau County Court as a result of an incident referred to as an attempt at blackmail. According to court documents, Jamie L. Martin, 28, California, was charged with an Unclassified Felony of Abuse Through Forced Labor. The case is alleged to have begun in Chicago when the Chicago Police Department received complaints. The investigation is alleged to have followed an internet email site to a Missouri man. The case is then alleged to have been referred to the Missouri State Highway Patrol for follow-up. Officers investigated and are alleged to have determined "the defendant knowingly attempted to obtain labor or services of a person by blackmail," taking steps towards "completing the offense by contacting the victim electronically, multiple times". The defendant is alleged to have demanded money and sexual favors in return for not sending alleged nude photos to the victim's co-workers. The photos in question were about nine or 10 years old and are alleged to have been found on an internet website. If convicted on this charge, the defendant could face from 5 -15 years in prison. No bond is allowed pending arraignment.
