Students to experience County Government

Approximately 100 students will participate in the American Legion Edgar Cole Post 304 sponsored Moniteau County Government Day Thursday, Feb. 28, in California.

Students will gather at 8:30 a.m at the First Baptist Church for an opening ceremony conducted by the Legion and then hear job descriptions from the elected county officials. Richard Schroeder will speak to the group about the history of the county courthouse.

After lunch at the church, students will tour offices at the courthouse, the county jail and the prosecuting attorney's office.

Attending will be Tipton High School juniors, California juniors enrolled in second semester government class and Jamestown sophomores.

County Government Day was established by the National American Legion in 1950 and adopted by the Missouri Department in 1954. Last year was a pilot program that included juniors from Tipton. Â
