At the monthly meeting of the California Area Chamber of Commerce meeting, Dolores Burger, chair of the annual dinner, presented a worksheet on items that needed to be covered. A decision was made to move the awards presentation to before dinner in order for family members and guests of the award recipients to enjoy the meal. Diane Eulinger, executive secratary, will make name tags for each person in attendance. Shelly Hampton will contact a local minister to do the invocation. This year the honored guest of the chamber will be the California City Firefighters.
The dinner will be held at the California Nutrition Center, Saturday, Jan. 26. The social hour and silent auction will be held from 5- 6 p.m., with Phil Lewis providing entertainment. The Chamber Citizen of the Year, Volunteer of the Year and Business of the Year will be announced at 6 p.m. This event is open to the public and tickets may be obtained at the Chamber office for $15. Shelly Hampton, a member of the Annual Dinner Awards Committee, made a recommendation the process for nominations for Business of the Year and Citizen of the Year be revised. The committee had received information the process of getting three letters of reference was difficult to accomplish. Eulinger will give the board a copy of the current forms and at the February board meeting they will be reviewed to see if changes should be made.
Committees were discussed for 2013. Committees will stay the same as 2012 with the following exceptions -Â Robin Ratcliff was added to the Scholarship Committee, Kyle Renfro was added to the Ham/Turkey Festival Committee, Dwight Sanders and Todd McCluskey were added to the Signage Committee and Sally Vogel will serve one more year on the Awards Committee to co-chair with Richard Schroeder.
The minutes from the Dec. 13, board meeting were reviewed and approved.
The treasurer's report was reviewed and approved.
In the secretary's report, Eulinger distributed a written report in the member's packets. She mentioned she receives telephone calls asking for relocation information. At this time she is referring callers to the Chamber and City of California websites.Â
Ratcliff mentioned that holding the Christmas Home Decorating contest later in the month gave more homes to choose from. Also, having the contestants call the Chamber office was very helpful.
Brad Baer, chair of Ozark Ham and Turkey Festival, announced they will be holding the first meeting for 2013 on Monday, Feb. 4 at 5:30 p.m. He encouraged all event chairpersons be in attendance to help plan.
The next monthly board meeting will be held Thursday, Feb. 14, at 8 a.m. in the City Hall meeting room.
