Historical Society plans chili supper for March 9

The Moniteau County Historical Society met Monday, Jan. 14, at 7:30 at the Cultural Heritage Center. The President Pam Green called the meeting to order and reports were heard from the secretary and treasurer.

During the business meeting it was reported the building expansion was progressing well. The date of March 9 was set for the annual chili/ soup supper which will be held at the Nutrition Center. Donations of food items were solicited. There will be a free will offering.

Richard Schroeder offered his resignation as supervisor of the museum.

It was reported the Heck Saddlery horse had been located in the St. Louis area.

This was the annual "Show and Tell" program when members bring items of historical interest and describe their story. There were a variety of interesting items brought including a small box containing white and black marbles which was used to vote on a subject with white being yes and black being a no vote. A newspaper article describing a devastating tornado in New York which destroyed a home and family but a baby survived and was found in the orchard after sounds of crying were heard. That child was the great grandmother of one of the members. An interesting antique rifle was also shown and a medal with the engraved name of Bertha Eidson was shown that  had been found.

The next meeting will be on Feb. 11 and will be a business meeting.
