Moniteau County Democratic club

The Moniteau County Democratic Club met on July 25 for its monthly dinner meeting. The meeting was called to order by Resa Dudley in the absence of President Eric Moore. The minutes of the previous meeting and treasurer's report were reviewed and approved.

A brief business meeting was held and a sign up sheet was circulated for manning the Democratic booth at the Missouri State Fair. The club's highway litter pickup will be scheduled for the early fall. A discussion was held regarding the efforts to override the Governor's veto of the House Bill 253 calling for big tax cuts. Concern was expressed over the devastating effect these tax cuts will have on state services, particularly education and medical service delivery. The discussion centered around what could be done to counter the highly financed campaign on television to override the veto. Members were urged to contact their representative, local school board members and medical professionals as well as writing a letter to the editor of the newspapers expressing concern.

The speaker for the evening was Jordan Overstreet, Executive Director of the Missouri House Democratic Victory Committee. His comments dealt with efforts being made to recruit good candidates to run for the House. He outlined what was being done to establish guidelines to get people to run who could make a difference and have the ability to work

with people. A question and answer period followed with members discussing topics of interest.

The next meeting will be on Thursday, Aug. 22. Guests are always welcome. Call 573-796-2765 for more information.
