Approximately 27 upcoming seventh graders attended the first ever California Middle School Seventh Grade Football Camp June 17-20 at the CMS practice field, directed by CMS Head Football Coach Ed Ziegs.

Ziegs explained why he started this particular camp. "The seventh graders don't usually know football terminology. We wanted to catch them up with our system, to get them up to speed before they practice with the eighth graders, so they can all be cohesive. So we decided to have a low-grade fundamental, four-day camp just for the seventh graders."

Ziegs added, "Also, everybody needs to be a blocker and often the seventh graders have never blocked. So we worked on blocking fundamentals."

Coaches who assisted Ziegs at the camp were Don delRosario, Scott Loring, Andy Bieri, Dennis Davis and Jeff Green.

The CMS Football Camp for grades 7-8 will be held 7-10 a.m. July 29-31 at the CMS practice field.
