Democrat meets

The Moniteau County Democratic club met Thursday, Feb. 28 at the Nic-Nac Cafe with Chair Eric Moore presiding. It was announced that the club’s MODOT highway cleanup committee had changed the date of the cleanup to March 23 due to the heavy roadside snow. Committee Chairperson Resa Dudley has set the date of April 6 as an alternate date if needed.

The Scholarship Committee is working on guidelines which they will offer for review at the next meeting.

Ramona Hader, chairperson of the fundraising committee, advised the group that she would be selling tables for the Truman Day event which is set for May 4.

It was noted that Aug. 10 would be the club’s day to man the booth at the Missouri State Fair in August.

The bylaws for the club were presented to the members and were voted to be adopted.

The club had placed an ad in the newspaper encouraging people to vote in the upcoming city and school board elections. It was decided to run the ads again prior to the election on April 2.

Nominating committee members Don Schenewerk, Charlie Roll and Resa Dudley will present a slate of officers to be voted on at the next meeting.

Mary Mosely, lobbyist for NOW and the Women’s Network, gave a Legislative update on the many bills that have been introduced,.especially those of interest related to women’s and children’s issues. Eric Moore, AESCME, also spoke to the club on the pending right-to-work legislation and paycheck deception. He asked that those interested call 1-888-907-9711 for more information.

The next meeting will be March 28, at 6:30 p.m., at the Nic-Nac Cafe. It is hoped that the candidates for school board and city council will be present for an open public meeting.
