Winter storm moving out of Missouri

The winter storm which pounded the region Sunday is moving slowly eastward.

Any heavy accumulating snow across eastern Missouri is expected to end on Sunday night, but a chance for some lingering snow showers continues through Monday.

Travel continues to be potentially hazardous (see road report links below), especially where streets and roads have not been well plowed or treated. Power outages have been smaller in number for area electric suppliers compared to the last major winter storm (see links to area utilities below).

The NWS issued the following statement for Mid-Missouri:

...WINTER STORM WINDING DOWN IN CENTRAL MISSOURI BUT STILL IMPACTING EASTERN MISSOURI AND SOUTHWEST ILLINOIS...

...WINTER STORM WARNING EXPIRED AT 7 P.M...

  • TIMING...MODERATE TO HEAVY ACCUMULATING SNOW IS EXPECTED TO TAPER OFF AROUND SUNDOWN.
  • ACCUMULATIONS...7 TO 12 INCHES OF SNOW...WITH LOCALLY HIGHER AMOUNTS.
  • WINDS...NORTHWEST 15 TO 20 MPH WITH GUSTS UP TO 30 MPH.
  • IMPACTS... SNOWFALL WILL LIKELY GREATLY REDUCE VISIBILITIES AT TIMES AND RESULT IN SNOW PACKED AND SLICK ROADS... MAKING TRAVEL HAZARDOUS. HEAVY WET SNOW COULD ALSO COAT PINE TREES AND POWER LINES LEADING TO POWER OUTAGES.
  • PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... A WINTER STORM WARNING MEANS THAT 6 INCHES OR MORE OF SNOW IS EXPECTED. THE RAPID ACCUMULATION OF SNOW WILL MAKE TRAVEL EXTREMELY DIFFICULT...IF NOT IMPOSSIBLE. IF TRAVEL IS NECESSARY... MAKE SURE TO EXERCISE CAUTION. BEGIN YOUR TRAVEL WITH A TANK FULL OF GAS...AND CARRY A WINTER STORM KIT WHICH INCLUDES A SHOVEL... FLASHLIGHT...CELLPHONE...AND BLANKETS OF EXTRA WARM CLOTHING.
