Pintos place third at Tri-County Conference Golf Tourney

The California High School varsity boys golf team participated in the Tri-County Conference Tournament Wednesday, April 24, at the Shawnee Bend Golf Course, Warsaw, where the Pintos finished in third place.

Southern Boone won the conference title with 324. Blair Oaks placed second with 337; California, third, 348; Eldon, fourth, 367; Osage, fifth, 391; Warsaw, sixth, 410; Versailles, seventh, 416; and Hallsville, eighth, 433.

"I think third is a pretty good accomplishment for as young and inexperienced as we are," California Coach Doug Miller said. "The boys have shown great progess. This was another wet, nasty day, but we did okay. Two of our boys made All-Conference, while others were just strokes away, so all in all, I'm pleased, though I do wish our lone senior, Curtis Lehman, could've had a better day to make All-Conference his senior year."

All-Conference honors went to the top 10 finishers, including California's Kade McAdams and Damon Shaw, who placed seventh and eighth respectively, with 85 each.

Southern Boone's Blake Lammers was the medalist with 71 individually. Kory Franks was runner-up with 75. Remaining top 10 finishers were Blair Oaks' Tanner Elder, third place, with 77; Eldon's Braden Atkinson, fourth, 80; Southern Boone's Hayden Nichols, fifth, 84; Southern Boone's Zack Ancell, sixth, 84; Southern Boone's Walker Kesterson, ninth, 85; and Blair Oaks' Corbin Singer, 10th, 87.

Individually for California, Tyler Elliott placed 11th with 88; Conner, 12th, 90; and Lehman, 16th, 93.

"We still have a shot at the district tournament," Miller said. "If we can get everybody clicking for that, we'll have a better shot for everyone to qualify for sectionals."

California hosted a match with Eldon Thursday at the California Country Club, where the Pintos won the varsity match with 193. Eldon's varsity finished with 202.

"The course was in good condition, but we just didn't play very well," Miller said.

California was led by Lehman with 47 individually. McAdams followed with 48; Elliott and Conner George, 49 each; and Shaw, 50.

Shooting individually for California's JV were John Wolken and Cole George with 52 each. Eldon's JV finished with 217.

The Pintos participated in the Class 2, District 4 Golf Tournament Tuesday, April 30, at Redfield Golf Course, Eugene, however, results were not available at press time.
