Democratic Club plans Truman Day celebration

The Moniteau County Democratic Club members and guests  met at the Nic Nac Restaurant on Thursday, April 25, at 6 p.m.  In the absence of president Eric Moore, Taunia Adams called the meeting to order and introduced the speaker for the evening Peggy Cochran from Rocky Mount. 

She is a retired teacher with many connections with the educational system in Missouri and spoke to the group concerning the issues currently pending in the state legislature.  Many of these proposed changes will affect local schools and personnel.  She handed out

information concerning the bills currently being considered .

During the business meeting the minutes of the previous meeting and treasurer's report were heard.  Ramona Hader noted that some dues still needed to be collected.  A telephone group volunteered and will be calling members to notify them of future meetings.  July 25 was set as the date for the picnic at Proctor Park.  There was concern expressed by the  members who needed to speak to our representative Caleb Jones and were unable to reach him.

Jeannie Lahman reported on the Candidate forum which was held earlier before the April 2 election and all agreed that it was successful.

The plans for the Truman Days celebration which will be held on May 4 at the Fairgrounds Centennial Hall were discussed.  The speaker will be Secretary of State Jason Kander.  The meeting will start at 6 p.m. and a live auction will be held.  Several worth while items will be offered including four tickets with premium seating and parking at a Royals baseball game, tickets to the Lyceum theater in Arrow Rock and many other useful items.
