Twin City Garden Club holds November meeting

The Twin City Garden Club met at the United Methodist Church Tuesday, Nov. 12 with eight members and one guest present. The meeting was opened with the members joining in the Conservation Pledge.
The program was presented by Sharon Hammon of The Flower Shop. She demonstrated the method of designing and making a fall centerpiece arrangement. She used a basket and
carnations and chrysanthemums along with the greenery.
The minutes of the previous meeting were read by Fran Scallorns and approved. The treasurer’s report was given by Gloria Longan and bills allowed for park bed additions.
The committee reports were heard starting with the National Garden Club’s Poetry contest. Many entries had been received from local county schools and home schooled and were reviewed by youth chairs, Neta Dishion and Gloria Longan. The winning poems will be printed in the local newspaper and forwarded to the Federated Garden Clubs of
Missouri Youth program.
The report from the Fall Central District meeting held recently in Centralia was heard where new officers were elected for the next two year term.
The nominating committee offered the nominees for office for the next two years which were elected. They are Melinda Burgoon, president; Dorothy Hughes, vice president; Fran Scallorns, secretary; and Nancy Martin, treasurer.
A discussion was held on the club’s project of decorating the gazebo at Smith Burke Park which the club does each year for Christmas. The date was set for Nov. 19 at 11 a.m.
The refreshments were provided by Rhonda Heimericks.
The next meeting will be held Tuesday, Dec. 10, at 11 a.m., at
Tammy’s Restaurant in Centertown. Members are to bring a non-perishable food item for the food pantry. Call 573-796-2981 for more information.
