Seventh grade Lady Pintos start season with 33-3 win

The California Middle School seventh grade girls basketball team opened the 2013-14 season Thursday night with a 33-3 win at Fulton.

"We outscored Fulton by 12 in the first quarter," California Coach Bryan Lawson said. "Our man-to-man defense was overwhelming for the Lady Hornets. At the half, we were up 22-1. The third quarter was slow going as we only scored one point, but we had a strong fourth quarter and outscored Fulton 10-2."

Quinn Albertson led California with nine pts, while Grace Henley scored seven, and Gracie George pitched in with four points. Megan Bailey added three, and Cheyanne Harper, Jackie Hibdon, Megan Witt and Kaitlyn Turner each had two points.

"Overall, I was proud of the girls effort," Lawson said. "We've practiced hard for the last three weeks so it was nice to see the girls preform well. We had a good balance on scoring."

California will host Blair Oaks Tuesday, Dec. 3, beginning with the seventh grade game at 6 p.m., and the eighth grade game to follow.
