Jamestown hosted California Monday, where the varsity Lady Eagles won 8-3.

"Our defense made some nice plays," Hirschvogel said. "Steph was a little off, and the Lady Pintos did a nice job of keeping pressure on us, so for our defense to step up, that was big. (Jessica) Hughes did a nice job of keeping us off balance at the plate."

Birkmann recorded the win with one strikeout.

Birkmann led Jamestown hits with a homerun, a single and two RBI. Eschenbrenner had a homerun and four RBI. Mackenzie Strother had a triple and one RBI and Darian Wolfe and Alli Muri each recorded two singles.

Jamestown's JV also defeated California 6-4 in three innings.

"We're heading into a tough stretch of teams, so our focus is to be playing well in all phases of the game as we move into districts next week at Pilot Grove," Hirschvogel said.

Jamestown will host Pilot Grove at 5 p.m. Thursday.
