Festival follow-up meeting scheduled

California The California Area Chamber of Commerce met Thursday, Oct. 10, in the city hall meeting room. Norris Gerhart, Chamber President, presided over the meeting.
The minutes from the September board meeting and the treasurers report were reviewed and approved.
Chamber Executive Secretary Diane Eulinger distributed a written report listing her activities for the month.
Brad Baer, Chairman of the Ozark Ham & Turkey Festival, reported the festival was successful with a good day weather-wise. He announced a follow-up festival meeting will be held Monday, Oct. 21, at 5:30 p.m., at the city hall meeting room. Everyone is invited to attend and bring suggestions or concerns. In old business, Tom Winters shared the Farmer’s Market had craft vendors and they are hoping to attract more food vendors for future markets. The future location and fees are being discussed.
Dr. Todd McCluskey and Tom Winters shared information regarding the proposed signs to be placed on Highway 50. They shared photos of potential placement of the signs. The committee will continue to work with MODOT and gather information on the size and type of signs appropriate. They hope to bring costs to the chamber board after the first of the year. There was discussion as to estimated costs, getting financial backing and possibility of a campaign to fund the costs. Baer and Dwight Sanders also serve on the committee.
In new business, Ashley Varner, Community Organizer, Central Missouri Community Action (CMCA), gave a presentation on services the organization offers. Varner shared information regarding Missouri Work Assistance Subsidized Employment Program, housing, energy assistance, Head Start, employment and training, family development, weatherization and foster grandparents. CMCA is about empowering individuals and families to achieve self-reliance.
The Christmas California Style parade will be held Saturday, Dec. 7. The committee is working on a theme for the parade and will work closely with area businesses to celebrate the event.
New this year will be a business decorating contest. Local businesses should watch the newspaper for information and guidelines.
KRCG-13 television station would like to partner with local businesses to promote the power of shopping local for Christmas. Any business interested in this should contact the chamber office.
The next meeting of the California Area Chamber of Commerce Board will be Thursday, Nov. 14, at 8 a.m., in the city hall meeting room.
