Fall 2013 Topic Meeting Schedule

Nov. 7—Barbecue followed by MidMo Drug Task Force

The fall meeting schedule will be kicked off with a barbecue at 6:30 p.m. followed by the program at 7:30. Don Issac, with the Mid MO Drug Task Force, will give the latest statistics on drug use and meth production in Missouri and the county. He will also show what to look for if it is suspected a meth lab is being used in the area.

Nov. 14—"Law enforcement on the Wilder Side"

Moniteau County Conservation Agent Nathaniel Hodges will give an overview of the duties of a Missouri Conservation agent and explain the Missouri wildlife code rules and department policies related to wildlife management. He will also answer questions in regard to nuisance wildlife control or Conservation Department policies.

Nov. 21—"Legislative Issues" with Sen. Mike Kehoe and Rep. Caleb Jones.

Issues such as the “Right to Farm” amendment will be addressed and any questions concerning legislative matters.

Dec. 5—"Estate Planning" with Connie Hayden, Hayden and Byrne Law Firm LLC

Estate planning is the process of preparing and implementing a plan for transferring assets from one generation to another. It is NOT simply having a will. A comprehensive estate plan dictates how assets will be distributed and minimizes taxes and headaches for heirs. Connie Haden grew up on a farm and received an American FFA Degree. She is very knowledgeable in the area of farm succession and farm estate planning.

Dec. 12—Year end farm tax planning

Bobby Medlin CPA will explain new tax laws that relate to farmers and landowners, and information that will affect decisions that need to be made before the end of the year.

Dec. 19—To be announced

Some possibilities for this meeting are “USDA Programs and Farm Bill Update” or “The Proper Preparation of Hides and Furs for Market”.

Coming this winter/ 2014

Jan. 9—Ron Plain, Ag Economist, University of Missouri, and a chili supper


Plain will give his perspective on the economy and his prediction of the commodity markets for the coming year. The meal will begin at 6:30 with meeting following at 7:30.

Resources available to adults

There is a variety of equipment and information resources available to adults in the adult agriculture program here in California.

• Soil sampling and hay sampling probes are available for anyone wanting to soil test for fertility requirements and hay probes to test for nutrient content of hay or baleage.

• Instruction on farm computer record keeping is available to anyone with an interest in learning to use a “user friendly computer program”. For producers wanting to go into greater detail, the Farm Business Management program (FBMA) is open to those that would like more detailed financial analysis to use as a benchmarking tool for the farm business.

• The Brands computer ration balancing program that can be used on all classes of beef cattle. If there are any questions in regard to ration balancing or any of these resources, please contact Dale Hodges at the California Ag. Dept.
