Wednesday, September 18, 2013
The Moniteau County Historical Society was privileged to host a famous couple at their last meeting Monday, Sept. 9, at the Cultural Heritage Center.
The Paegelow’s were in town and gave an excellent overview of there lives and travels. Col. John and Elia Wood Paegelow
were influential in forging the early history of California. He was born in Germany and came to the US where he was in the military and served in the U.S. and the Philippines. He is noted for his service in the early air force. After retiring he served in the local fire department.
Their house was donated to the Christian church which was
the original local library before it was moved to the present location.
The Paegelow’s were portrayed by Richard and Carole Schroeder.
Following the program the president, Pam Green, called the meeting to order. The minutes and treasurer's report of the previous meeting were reviewed and accepted. Bills were presented and approved for payment.
Green called for committee reports. Richard Schroeder was
thanked for the new displays in the museum. He reported several tour groups would be visiting the museum in the coming week.
Paul Jungmeyer gave a brief review of the building project.
Carole Schroeder circulated a calendar requesting volunteers for the museum.
Irma Plaster circulated a signup sheet for members who plan to attend the annual meeting on Nov. 11. A special visitor will
attend and members will be taken back to the 1860s.
Building and grounds chair Jim Martin reported work still needed to be done on the basement. The president thanked him for paint and trim work done in the building.
Martin reported on a fundraiser which will be held to provide
for ongoing expenses in the form of a raffle sale.
The Fall window displays have been arranged by James Albin and Shirley Elliot.
The set up for the Ham and Turkey Festival booth was discussed. The book sale will be held in the new genealogy library.
Paul Jungmeyer will call a meeting of the nominating committee for selecting officers for the coming year to be elected in October.
Refreshments of cake and ice cream were served by Irma Plaster.
The next meeting will be on Oct.14. Guests are welcome. Call Carole Schroeder at 796-2250 for more information.
