RMS Lady Indians win match against Eugene

The Russellville Middle School volleyball team played their first home matches of the 2014 season March 24, where the Lady Indians won the B game 26-24 and 25-14.

"We played tough and had consistent serves and passing," Russellville Coach Shelly Korte said.

Eugene won the A game 25-15 and 25-7.

"The girls started off playing tough with lots of communication on the court, but we let down throughout the game and had 13 dropped balls," Korte said. "We can play much better. Our serves were pretty good for the night."

Megan Chappell contributed 11 aces, followed by Brianna Mckiney with 10, Mackayla Stubinger with eight, and Blake Lueckenotte with five.

"Our serves have become much more consistent," Korte said. "We will be working on more consistent passes and more communication on the court, along with transition to and from the net to improve our game."

The Lady Indians hosted Chamois Friday, where they captured a win. After losing the first set 15-25, Russellville came back to win the next two sets 25-21 and 25-16 to clench the match win.

"It was nice to finally get a win under our belt for our middle school Lady Indians," Korte said. "We started off with a B game where we played just the two games and lost. Then we played our A game and won. We started off a little rough, but we re-grouped after the first game and started playing better after that. I tell the girls we will benefit in future years if we can accomplish this now at the middle school level. Megan Chappell did an excellent job of digging Chamois hits up, which helped in our victory."

Korte added, "I hope we keep up the teamwork for our last game at home against Eugene. The girls can do it. I'm very proud of our improvements so far."

Russellville will host Eugene at 5:30 p.m. today (Wednesday).
