First California Farmers Market kicks off

The California Farmers Market on Friday, April 25, from 4 to 8 p.m., kicked off a summer of the planned events to bring vendors and customers together. The California Farmers Market is planned to be held every Friday until October.

Although it was early in the season to expect much in the way of fresh vegetables or fruit, numerous other items were available for purchase, including a large variety of plants, fresh organic farm eggs, cupcakes, jars of jelly, sausage sticks, bread, cake, crocheted goods and more.

Vendor Joanne Winters, who lives in the California area, said she has been looking forward to a local area farmers market for some time and was the first to pick a booth. She had samples of jelly available for a taste test before the customers made their choices. Customer Mary Manning wanted to check out the first local farmers market. Although she was hopeful for fruit and vegetables, she was looking over the available plants.
