Serious injury in car-truck collision

One driver was seriously injured in a collision which occurred about 9:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 11, in Moniteau County on Highway 50 eight-tenths of a mile west of Claas Crossing Drive.

According to a Missouri Highway Patrol report, the incident occurred when an eastbound 2004 Hyundai Sonata, driven by Forrest L. Rush, Independence, attempted to pass an eastbound 2014 International Pro Star +, driven by Francis L. Harris, Eldon, in a no passing zone. The Hyundai struck an oncoming westbound 2012 Volvo truck, driven by Jessie D. Donaldson, Chouteau, Okla., head-on, then crossed the center of the road, striking the International, went back across the center line, and came to rest off the roadway.

The Hyundai driver was transported by Staff For Life to University Hospital in serious condition.

Both truck drivers were reported wearing seat belts. It is unknown if the Hyundai driver was wearing a seat belt. The Hyundai was reported totaled, the Volvo sustained extensive damage and the International sustained minor damage.
