Prairie Home faculty honored with dinner

The United Methodist Church provided supper for the faculty and staff of Prairie Home R-V Monday evening before Open House/Meet The Teacher Night. Dinner was served by Jackie Bruner, Cecilia Johnson, Kathy Oglesbay, Kay Sells, Glenda Sells, Vicki Fain and Nancy Kixmiller. Pastor Steve Jones assisted generally and gave the blessing before dinner. Door prizes were “School Survival Kits” which contained items such as emery boards, chocolate, tissues, hand sanitizer, miscellaneous school supplies, really anything that a staff member might need to get through a day. Through the generosity of PHUMC members, there were enough door prizes for all school staff members.
Members of the PHS staff who attended the dinner included Dr. Steven Barnes, Patrick Tray, Karma Haller, Janice Rentel, Elyse Burkes, Randa Robb, Jessi Cater, Sarah Stidham, Jennifer Lenger, Garon Overfield, Rachel Martin, Deanna Null, Krista Moore, Tracy Young, Doug Distler, Dalton Armontrout, Marie Pope, Cheryl Van Kirk, Michelle Mozingo, Sharon Lucas, John Schell, Dean Barker, Tina Misener, Leah Meyer, Emma Keeran, Peggy Pethan, Linda Scott and Glenda Scott.
The Garden Club met at the home of Patti Vonder Haar on Thursday. The program was taking a tour of the Vonder Haar property and identifying edible wild plants. In addition to the hostess, those attending were Peggy Ann Eichen, Glenda Sells, Jenna Moran, Linda Keith and Vicki Fain. The next meeting will be a barbecue Sept. 25 at the home of Sue Denny in Lupus. Spouses/significant others are invited.
After an eventful summer, Prairie Home R-V had a smooth opening to the 2014-15 on Aug. 20. Parents are reminded that all medications, both over the counter and prescription, must be given to the school nurse. Serious consequences may result if a student is found with any drugs including over the counter and prescription. The first offense may result in a 10 day out of school suspension. Over the counter and prescription drugs may not be kept in purses, pockets, book bags, lockers or anywhere else on school grounds. Any questions may be directed to school nurse’s aide, Tracy Young, at 660/841-5296. Parents are also reminded to please keep Food Service accounts up to date.
The PTO will be meeting the third Thursday of every month at 7 p.m. The next meeting will be Sept. 18 and all parents are encouraged to join. PTO contributes to the school by providing playground equipment, assisting with field trips, providing two scholarships during the school year, providing caps and gowns for kindergarten graduation, sponsoring students to go to Boys State and Girls State and many other programs. Events currently planned are: Sept. 26 – Family Fun Night; Oct. 4 – Trivia Night at Boonville Eagles Club; Oct. 10-31 – Dip mix and popcorn fundraiser; Jan. 24 – Me and My Special Someone Dance for K-5; March 27 – PTO Carnival.

The Lions Club is a community service organization that supports and implements various projects in the area. In recent years, they have serviced the baseball fields, the swimming pool, the high school track, and elementary playground equipment. They also provide scholarships to graduating seniors and sponsor junior boys and girls to Boys and Girls State. Unfortunately, due to an aging membership, death and lack of support, the organization is in danger of dissolving.
New active members are needed to fill elected positions and help with other projects. All interested men and women are invited to attend one of the meetings, which are held the first and third Wednesday of each month at 7 p.m. at the Lions Club building on Main Street across from the pump house. The next meeting will be held Sept. 3.
The Tri–Annual Alumni Association reunion is Saturday. Join in a walk down memory lane with dinner in the Alma Mater and visit with classmates. Registration will be at the door beginning at 4 p.m. by the breezeway doors.

Aug. 29 – sloppy on whole wheat bun, green beans, french fries, fresh fruit, chocolate pudding, milk. Alt. - chef salad.
Aug. 28 – Girls Softball vs. Harrisburg at 5 p.m. (home).
Aug. 29 – Boys Baseball vs. Bunceton at 5 p.m. (home).
Aug. 30 – Prairie Home Alumni Association Tri-Annual Reunion at the school. Registration begins at 4 p.m., dinner at 6 p.m.
Sept. 1 – Labor Day.
Sept. 2 - Boys Baseball at Bunceton at 5 p.m. (away).
Sept. 3 – Lions Club at 7 p.m.
Sept. 4 - Girls Softball at Jamestown at 5 p.m.; Boys Baseball at Jamestown at 7 p.m. (away).
