Lady Pintos win final two games to claim Mexico Tournament championship

The California girls basketball team rebounded from a close loss in the opening round of last week's Mexico Tournament, winning its final two games and earning the tournament championship.

The Lady Pintos defeated Battle 58-44 in their second game on Wednesday, Dec. 3. Freshman guard Elizabeth Lutz finished with 20 points and sophomore guard Kayla Allison scored 12.

California finished the round-robin tournament Friday night with a 59-38 win over Mexico. Lutz had 13 points, senior forward Kelsey Roush added 12 points and sophomore forward Cameron Meyer scored 10.

Macks Creek 60, Jamestown 44

Junior guard Alli Muri finished with a team-high 16 points for the Lady Eagles, who fell to Macks Creek in Saturday's consolation final of the Tipton Basketball Tournament. Junior guard Lexi Muri had 11 points and junior guard Mickayla Strother scored 10.

Jamestown boys update

The Eagles finished 1-2 at the Tipton Basketball Tournament last week, beating Chamois 58-34 in the opening round and losing to Macks Creek, 56-40, in the semifinals, and New Bloomfield, 54-42, in the consolation round. Senior forward Trevor Barbour scored a combined 39 points in the three games to lead Jamestown. Freshman Garrett Wolfe had a team-high 15 points against New Bloomfield.

Osage 63, Russellville 59

Senior forward Levi Anderson had 25 points for the Indians, who fell to Osage at the Eugene Tournament on Tuesday, Dec. 2. Senior guard Zach Voss finished with 14 points and freshman guard Beau Bryant scored 11 for Russellville.

Russellville girls update

The Lady Indians finished 2-1 at last week's Eugene Tournament. They beat Calvary, 53-32, in the opening round, then lost to Blair Oaks, 65-28, in the semifinals. Russellville bounced back to defeat Eugene, 56-51, in the third-place game. Senior guard Justice Miller scored a combined 46 points at the tournament, while senior guard Haley Windsor scored 35 in the three games.

Middle School update

The California girls seventh-grade basketball team went 2-1 in its last three games to improve to 4-1 on the season. California beat Eldon, 36-12, on Tuesday, Nov. 25, and Blair Oaks, 37-9, on Tuesday, Dec. 2. California lost to Southern Boone, 30-16, on Thursday, Dec. 4. Against Eldon, Hailey Cain and Makayla Schanzmeyer each had seven points. In the win over Blair Oaks, Paige Lamm scored a team-high 12 points. California plays at Hallsville at 6 p.m. Thursday.
