High Street Grill offers family friendly dining

High Street Grill is open for business, offering ample seating, breakfast menu all day, as well as lunch and dinner, according to Carla Clennin, CFO, and John Harper, owner. Hours are from 10 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Monday Through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday for family friendly dining. The California Event Center is also open for business. Event Coordinator Darla Jo Vader can be reached at 573-796-6345 or on Facebook at California Event Center/High Street Grill.

The business opened officially in the century-old building on High Street across from the Moniteau County Courthouse on Monday, Sept. 22. To give the customers a "taste" of what was coming, High Street Grill was actually open with a limited menu for the Ozark Ham and Turkey Festival two days earlier.

When High Street Grill opened for business in September, the hours were 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. As the remodeling progressed, the hours and the menu have expanded. Ordering and pickup are at the counter

Clennin commented that plans are to continue with the expansion, an example of which is to begin offering plate lunches.

According to Clennin, Harper recognized the need for an event center in California and saw the possibility of the location and the premises at 507 North High Street on the Courthouse Square. As the details were worked out and the building bought in May of 2014, Clennin saw an additional possibility. The result of that thought is the High Street Grill. The business features many of the items which were favorites of customers of Harold Clennin's at the county fair and the ham and turkey festival.

The breakfast menu ranges from several "breakfast" selections, half a dozen special omelets, and several breakfast sandwiches. A la cart items include biscuits and gravy.

A variety of sandwiches, basket deals, foot long hot dogs and chili dogs served on steamed buns are on the lunch and dinner menu.

Even though both the grill and the event center are operating, with a Valentines Day dinner on Feb. 14 and a craft vendor display on Saturday, March 21. There is more to be done and the work continues on both.

The California High School Art Club will soon be painting a mural on the north wall inside the grill. The mural will highlight historical features of the courthouse square

The premises of High Street Grill has undergone extensive remodeling to ready it for customers, and the work is not yet completed. And it is not only the grill that is undergoing the work. While the restaurant is being remodeled, the adjacent California Event Center is undergoing extensive renovations. Both are open for business.
