The California school bands presented its Christmas Concert for 2014 Monday, Dec. 15, at the CHS auditorium. The High School Concert began at 7 p.m. and the Middle School Concert began at 8 p.m. The guitar methods students opened the high school concert with "Jingle Bells," "Largo," Rudolph," "Aura Lee," "Guitar Rock," "Rockin' in Dorian Mode" and "Silent Night."
Band Director Dustijn Hollon then took the stage to speak about the successes of 2014, while showing a short video. He then showed a second video with the plans for 2015. Plans are to go with themes from "Phantom" and "Les Miserables." Also included are plans for a trip to march in the Florida Citrus Parade, the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl in Atlanta, Ga., and Macy's Holiday Parade. Awards were also given to band members.
The high school Pinto Pride Band was up next with performances of "Sleigh Ride," "20 Carols," "A Christmas Canon," "The Joyful Bells of Christmas," "Highlights from Frozen" and "Bobsled Run."Sarah Bryant performed on the piano during the interim while the stage was rearranged for the percussion performance.
The "Instrumental Tech" percussion group, an extra class, performed two pieces, "Fowl Play" and "Boo-Ray." The Competition Drumline provided the finale of the high school band concert with "Funkey Monkey" and "Will William Tell?"
After a brief intermission, the California Middle School Bands performed. The Sixth Grade band performed "Jingle Bells," "Frere Jacques," "Ode to Joy," Up On a Housetop," "Variations on Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" and "Banana Boat Song." The seventh and eighth graders of the Junior High Band were the final act, with performances of "Variations on Up On a Housetop," "Somewhere in My Memory," "All I Want for Christmas" and "Toboggan Run."
