Russellville Girls

The Lady Indians hosted Versailles Feb. 3, where they captured a 66-32 win from the Lady Tigers.

Russellville outscored Versailles 13-5 in the first quarter, 13-7 in the second, 27-10 in the third and 13-10 in the final frame to secure the win.

The Lady Indians were led by A.J. Grellner with 19 points and nine rebounds. Hannah Matthews scored 13 points and Kaitlyn Bungart added seven.

The Lady Indians were on the road Feb. 11, where they defeated Linn 54-16. Russellville was led by Hannah Matthews with 20 points. Hannah Morrow chipped in with nine, and A.J. Grellner scored eight. Grellner also led rebounds with 11.

The Lady Indians traveled to Eugene Feb. 12, where they suffered a 54-44 loss to the Lady Eagles.

Russellville was led by Grellner with 17 points. Matthews had nine points and Kaitlyn Bungart scored six. Grellner led rebounds with six.

The Lady Indians will play Stover at 5:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 24, in the opening round of the Class 2 District 8 Tournament at Russellville High School. Russellville is seeded fourth, while Stover is seeded fifth. The championship game is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 28.

Russellville Boys

The Indians were on the road Feb. 11, where they lost 59-25 to Linn. Levi Anderson led Russellville with eight points. Coy Bond followed with seven and Patrick Shirley added five.

Russellville hosted South Callaway Feb. 12, where the Indians lost 78-40. Bond led Russellville with 18 points. Tyler Voss scored six points, and Coy Minor and Shirley each added five.

The Indians hosted Fatima Friday, where they suffered a 71-31 loss to the Comets. Dylan Henderson led Russellville with 14 points. Shirley scored nine.

Russellville hosted Stover for Homecoming Saturday, where the Indians lost 55-39 to the Bulldogs.

Anderson led Russellville with 15 points, and Bond scored 13.

Russellville will play Linn at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 25, in the opening round of the Class 2 District 8 Tournament at Russellville High School. The Indians are seeded eighth, while the Wildcats are the top seed. The championship game is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Saturday, March 1.

Prairie Home Boys

The Panthers hosted Bunceton Feb. 11, where they defeated the Dragons 59-25.

Prairie Home led 26-4 after one quarter, 36-4 at the half, and 51-18 after three quarters.

"We played great defense, holding them to four points in the first half," Prairie Home Coach Cary Bibb said. "We shot well and everyone played a lot. This was a very nice conference game and home win for us."

The Panthers were led by Kody Simmons with 24 points, five rebounds and two steals. Rayce Kendrick scored 15 points and had nine rebounds, six assists and six steals. Ross Kendrick contributed 10 points, one assists, one block and one rebound. Jonathan Brandes had eight rebounds, two steals, two assists and two points.

Bunceton was led by Kyler Tucker with 14.

Prairie Home hosted Pilot Grove Friday, where the Panthers lost 66-47 to the Tigers.

Pilot Grove outscored Prairie Home 14-11 in the first quarter, 20-12 in the second, and 19-10 in the third to lead 53-33 going into the final frame.

Simmons led the Panthers with 13 points, three rebounds and three steals. Rayce Kendrick followed with 11 points, four rebounds, four assists and two steals. Klay Holliday chipped in with eight points and five rebounds, and Brandes added six points and five rebounds.

Prairie Home played Jamestown for the CCAA Tourney championship Saturday at Higbee, where the Panthers lost a close contest to the Eagles, 33-31, to finish the tourney in second place.

Prairie Home led 8-6 after the first quarter and 23-7 at the half, however, Jamestown turned up the heat in the second half to ouscore the Panthers 12-2 in the third quarter and 14-6 in the fourth to secure the win, 33-31.

Prairie Home was led by Rayce Kendrick with 10 points, four rebounds, three assists and three steals. Simmons followed with nine points, eight rebounds, four steals and two assists.

The Panthers will play Calvary Lutheran at 9 p.m. Monday, Feb. 24, in the first round of the Class 1 District 9 Tournament at Glasgow High School. Prairie Home is seeded fourth, and Calvary Lutheran fifth. The championship game is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Saturday, March 1.

Prairie Home Girls

The Lady Panthers played Bunceton for the CCAA Tourney championship Saturday at Higbee, where Prairie Home lost 41-25 to the Lady Dragons.

"To be playing for the tournament championship with the Prairie Home boys is very special for our school and community," Prairie Home Coach Linda Scott said.  

Bunceton led 18-6 after the first quarter, 23-12 at the half, and 30-16 after three quarters, then outscored the Lady Panthers 11-9 in the final frame to secure the win.

Makayla Zey led Prairie Home with 12 points, 10 rebounds, two assists, four steals and two blocks. Shianne Rhorer had six points, seven rebounds, three assists and one steal.

"We couldn't keep up with their speed," Scott said. "Makayla took a beating inside all night. She was our one bright spot on both ends of the floor. We just didn't bring the effort to win the big game. No excuses, we simply got out-classed tonight."   

(The Prairie Home boys lost the championship game 33-31 to Jamestown to finish the tourney in second place.)

Previously, the Lady Panthers hosted Pilot Grove Friday night, where they lost 58-53 to the Lady Tigers.

Rhorer and Rachel Distler led Prairie Home with 15 points each. Rhorer also had seven rebounds, three assists and one steal, while Distler had two rebounds, two assists and two steals. Zey contributed eight points, four assists and four steals, and led rebounds with 12.

"Our shooting was cold the first five minutes," Scott said. "We were down by 20 in the middle of the third quarter, and after that, we really went after the game and the kids never quit. This was our best game of the year. Our big four, Zey, Flood, Rhorer and Distler, really played at a high level. We learned a lot tonight. We can battle back against a good team. I'm so proud of my young team."

Prairie Home (13-7 and 1-2) will play Calvary Lutheran at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 25, in the first round of the Class 1 District 9 Tournament at Glasgow High School. The Lady Panthers are seeded third, Calvary Lutheran sixth. The championship game is scheduled for 4 p.m. Saturday, March 1.

Jamestown Boys

The Eagles will play Higbee at 9 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 25, in the opening round of the Class 1 District 9 Tournament at Glasgow High School. Jamestown is seeded third, Higbee is sixth. The championship game is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Saturday, March 1.
