2014 Relay For Life of Moniteau County Kick off Rally scheduled for March 4

Just as the effects of a challenging economy are felt by families in every community, cancer too has a far-reaching impact. No matter how the stock market is performing or what the current unemployment rate may be, there are still many people battling a cancer diagnosis and many others who are lending support alongside a loved one every day. These realities make the dollars donated and volunteer hours devoted to the American Cancer Society, a part of Moniteau County for many year, critically important.

Local volunteers are a huge part of a nationwide effort to save lives from cancer, but additional people are needed for the progress to continue. Plans are underway for the American Cancer Society's annual fundraiser, Relay For Life. This year's event will be held June 13 and 14 at the Moniteau County Fairgrounds in California from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. The money raised at Relay enables the American Cancer Society to deliver on its mission to helping people stay well, helping people get well, finding cures, and fighting back against this disease.

This event provides funding needed to do cutting-edge research; educate students, health care professionals and the public on the prevention and early detection of cancer; advocate for public policies that further the fight against cancer; and provide services for patients and families in our community.

Now is the time for individuals, families, community groups, corporations and small business to commit to Relay For Life team participation. Join us to celebrate those who have battled cancer, remember those who have lost, fight back against this disease and help the American Cancer Society realize its vision of a world with less cancer and more birthdays.

To learn how to form a team, participate or how you may volunteer please attend the Relay For Life Kick Off Rally, Tuesday, March 4, at Annunciation Catholic Church, California. Kick Off will begin at 6 p.m. with a light meal and entertainment. There will be a recap of the 2013 Relay For Life event and information regarding the changes to this year's event. This will also be the first team captains meeting and committee meeting.
