Prairie Home boys

The Panthers were on the road Jan. 3 where they captured a 44-28 win from Calvary Lutheran. After an even 10-10 first quarter, Prairie Home led 18-15 at the half and 29-18 after three quarters.

Rayce Kendrick led Prairie Home with 16 points, four rebounds, two steals and one assist. Kody Simmons had nine points, six rebounds, two steals and two blocks. Ross Kendrick chipped in with six points, three rebounds and two assists. Jonathan Brandes led rebounds with seven and had four points and three steals.

Prairie Home participated in the Otterville Holiday Classic Jan. 4-11, where the Panthers started off with a 51-34 loss to Northwest Jan. 9.

"We didn't take care of the ball early," Panther Coach Cary Bibb said. "Northwest was well-prepared and more aggressive than us."

Prairie Home was led by Simmons with 13 points and Rayce Kendrick with 11.

The Panthers then lost 50-26 to Slater Jan. 10 at the Otterville Tourney.

"Our kids battled but were outmatched athletically," Bibb said.

The Panthers were led by Ross Kendrick with seven points.

Prairie Home faced Lincoln in the final round of the tourney Saturday, where the Panthers lost a close contest, 39-34.

"I think we ran out of gas with our third game in 43 hours," Bibb said. "Ben Stock had a nice offensive game for us."

Stock led Prairie Home with 12 points. Simmons added 10.

The Panthers will host Jamestown Friday, at Prairie Home's Homecoming, beginning at 6 p.m.

Prairie Home girls

The Lady Panthers played Stover in a make-up game Jan. 4 at the Pilot Grove Tournament, where Prairie Home captured a 37-28 win to finish the tourney in third place.

The Lady Panthers led 8-4 after one quarter, 16-10 at the half, and 26-23 after three quarters.

Shianne Rhorer led Prairie Home (6-2) with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Makayla Zey followed with 11 points and 12 rebounds. Rachel Distler added eight points.

"We got the ball up and down the floor well," Prairie Home Coach Linda Scott said. "The girls played great defense the entire game."

Stover was led by Carly Nolting and Hunter Miesner with eight points each.

"Makayla Zey played hard tonight," Scott said. "She had good post moves, going both directions well, and she hit 50 percent from the field. Josie Flood had four great assists and four powerful rebounds in the second half that led our team to victory. We took hardware home from this tournament, which is a big step forward for our program and especially our players."

The Lady Panthers participated in the Otterville Classic Jan. 4-11, where Prairie Home ultimately finished in second place after losing the championship game 78-38 to Tuscumbia Saturday.

"Tuscumbia is one of the best teams in the state," Scott said. "We played hard with the gas we had left in our tank, after playing three games in 48 hours. I'm so proud of our girls. We had a great tournament. In the locker room after the game, senior Krista Small said she'd never played for first in a tournament. We've won a third place and second place trophy in a week. We should be happy."

Prairie Home was led by Distler and Rhorer with 10 points each. Zey scored nine.

Kendra Vaughan led Tuscumbia with 31 points.

Previously at the Otterville Tourney, Prairie Home defeated Slater 50-47 Jan. 9, led by Distler with 17 points and Rhorer with 16.

In first-round action at the tourney, the Lady Panthers took Lincoln down 60-36 led by Distler with 21 points. Rhorer scored 19 and Zey had 10.

Prairie Home will host Jamestown for Homecoming Friday beginning at 6 p.m.

Jamestown girls

The Lady Eagles hosted Russellville Thursday night, where Jamestown lost a close contest, 59-50.

Russellville led 15-13 after one quarter, 29-25 at the half, and 43-37 after three quarters.

"We had some turnovers that hurt us," Jamestown Coach E.H. Hirschvogel said. "Russellville hit free throws down the stretch to put us away."

Jamestown was led by Mickayla Strother with 15 points. Emily Scheperle and Mackenzie Strother each contributed 12 points.

Russellville was led by A.J. Grellner with 19 points.

"For our first game back after the break, I saw a lot of good things, so overall, it was a good effort in a tough loss," Hirschvogel said.

The Lady Eagles will play at Prairie Home at 6 p.m. Friday, which is Homecoming for the Panthers and Lady Panthers.

Russellville boys

The Indians played Stover for seventh place Saturday at the Stover Tourney, where Russellville lost 62-41.

The Indians were led by Patrick Shirley with 14 points, followed by Coy Bond with 13.

Previously at the Stover Tournament, Russellville lost 84-54 to Green Ridge Thursday night. Levi Anderson led the Indians with 33 points, while Bond scored 10.

The Indians will play at Eugene at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 21.

Russellville girls

The Lady Indians were on the road Thursday, where they captured a 59-50 win at Jamestown.

A.J. Grellner led Russellville with 19 points, followed by Hannah Matthews with 13. Haley Windsor chipped in with seven points.

Russellville will play at St. Elizabeth at 6 p.m. Monday, Jan. 20.
