Prairie Home's varsity girls and boys basketball teams hosted Jamestown for Homecoming Friday night, where the Lady Panthers captured a 56-51 win, while the Panthers suffered a 46-28 loss to the Eagles. The theme for the PHS Homecoming was Dr. Seuss.

"This was our best game of the year," Lady Panther Coach Linda Scott said after the win. "We never trailed and offensively, we were outstanding."

Prairie Home led 22-8 after the first quarter, 33-21 at the half and 41-36 after three quarters.

The Lady Panthers were led by Shianne Rhorer with 22 points, five rebounds and one assists and one steal. Makayla Zey led rebounds with 13 and scored 13 points as well. She also had four blocks, three assists and two steals. Rachel Distler scored 13 points, included 7 of 11 free throws, and had four rebounds and two steals.

"Krista Small was able to get the ball to the open man every time," Scott said. "Makayla Zey was a huge force for us tonight, and played her best game of the year. She, Josie Flood and Krista were leaders on the floor and truly played great all-around. Tonight was a true team effort. Jamestown has been the team everyone talks about the past two years, so we wanted this win and battled to earn it. A fun game."

During halftime of the girls' game, the Senior Night ceremony was held, in which Prairie Home's seniors (there are 13 in the Class of 2014) and their parents were recognized.

Jamestown came out hot in the boys' game to lead 18-8 after the first quarter and 27-14 at the half. The Panthers outscored the Eagles 8-5 in the third quarter, however, Jamestown came back in the fourth to outscore Prairie Home 14-6 to take the win.

The Panthers were led by Kody Simmons with 10 points. Ross Kendrick, Rayce Kendrick and Jonathan Brandes each had four points.

Jamestown was led by Trevor Barbour with 14 points, followed by Andy Thompson with 13. Alden Rohrbach chipped in with eight points.

The PHS cheerleaders performed during halftime of the boys' game.

The coronation followed the basketball games, where sophomore Ben Stock and senior Krista Small were crowned king and queen, and eighth-graders Austin Small and Kurstin Leonard were crowned prince and princess.

Prairie Home will host Russellville at 6 p.m. Friday, Jan. 24.
