Hartzler listening post brings comments

Austin Kramer, staff member of Congresswoman Vicky Hartzler, included California on the list of scheduled Listening Post visits last week. During the visit on Thursday, June 26, Kramer commented that the four people present were more than he expected, since vacations and farming take up the local residents' time and energy this time of year. Sedalia had one more person present than California.

Following the expression of concerns, Kramer said he would take the concerns back to the congresswoman.

One person expressed concern about the future of the Jamestown post office, since a letter received by postal patrons indicated the post office will either go to four hours a day or be contracted to a local business for a counter operation. One concern is that there are few possible businesses in Jamestown that the post office could be contracted to. Another is the elderly in the small town which have no transportation, but are currently within walking distance.

Among the other concerns expressed involved the Veterans Administration problems, the world scene in the Middle East and elsewhere, the influx of children coming over the border, the future of the A-10 Warthog plane (based at Whiteman), the IRS scandal, the Affordable Care Act, the EPA overreach, the SNAP nutrition program and a number of other issues related to different government agencies.
