Jamestown C-I Board meeting held June 12

The Jamestown C-I Board of Education met for regular session Thursday, June 12, where the meeting started off with Jamestown C-I eighth-grader Trenton Barbour delivered a proposal to the Board regarding an Eagle Scout project. Barbour said he would like to build a practice triple jump and long jump runway and sand pit for to be used by track team members.  

Barbour was commended by the Board for his thorough presentation which included diagrams, measurements and procedures, and the proposal was approved.

Costs for adding a cross country team and coaching options were discussed. The Board ultimately approved adding cross country for boys and girls for the 2014-15 school year.

A report of the school food service department was presented. Goals of the program for 2013-14 included healthier choices, less processed foods, and reduced costs. A salad bar was added, which increased participation and selection of fresh vegetables. Food Service Supervisor Bev Kirchhoff and her staff will attend a summer food service workshop.

The Board discussed long-range financial and facilities planning. Necessary projects that need attention in the near future were prioritized.

Bus mileage reports were presented to the Board and approved. It was voted to increase the pay for substitute bus drivers to $30 per route.

The following extra duty contracts were approved: Brannon Bartlett, assistant baseball coach, and

Jessica Hardwick, cheerleading coach.

A bid from G&R Construction Company, Tipton, was approved to replace the south section of the high school roof, which was damaged by a recent storm. G&R Construction's bid to replace the roof of the girls' locker room was also approved.

The Jamestown C-I Board will meet next at 7 p.m. Thursday, July 10, in the school library.
