Stingrays compete at Fulton meet

The California Stingrays competed in a swim meet at Fulton Wednesday, July 2, where other participating teams in the Mid-Missouri Conference were the Centralia Hurricanes, Eldon Dolphins, Jefferson City Barracudas, Mexico Marlins and Fulton Fins.

"Our kids persevered at the Fulton swim meet," California Coach Jamie Johnston said. "By the time we were done, it was 62 degrees. The kids were cold, but they swam hard and didn't give up. I was very proud of them."

California Stingrays who finished in the top four of their event are as follows. In the Mixed 8 and Under 100 Meter Freestyle Relay, the team of Gavin Porter, Kierstyn Lawson, Bennet Gatlin and Isabella Kincaid placed second with 1:50.00; Mixed 9-10 100 Meter Freestyle Relay, the team of Madison McCord, Eli Dunnaway, Enoch Dunnaway and Will Pickering, second, 1:21.85; Girls 9-10 100 Meter Freestyle Relay, the team of Kaylee Menhennet, Mabree Cooper, Kyla Combs and Elizabeth Turner, third, 1:32.91.

In the Mixed 11-13 200 Meter Freestyle Relay, the team of Brooklyn VanLoo, Tyler Johnston, Zoe Zimmerman and Nathan Pickering placed first with 2:25.85; Mixed 14-18 200 Meter Freestyle Relay, the team of Gavin Pickering, Audrey Pickering, Kaylee VanLoo and Luke Burger, first, 2:14.16.

In the Boys 10 and Under 100 Meter Individual Medley (IM), Enoch Dunnaway placed third with 2:14.19; Boys 11-12 100 Meter IM, Tyler Johnston fourth, 1:42.71; Girls 13-14 100 Meter IM, Brooklyn VanLoo fourth, 1:31.57; Girls 15-18 100 Meter IM, Kaylee VanLoo second, 1:32.22.

In the Mixed 8 and Under 100 Meter Medley Relay, the team of Bennett Gatlin, Mari Miller, Ella Bailey and Kwynn Duvall placed first with 2:16.34; Mixed 9-10 100 Meter Medley Relay, the team of Will Pickering, Elizabeth Turner, Enoch Dunnaway and Madison McCord, first, 1:41.62, and the team of Kyla Combs, Megan Arnold, Kaylee Menhennet and Eli Dunnaway, fourth, 2:00.60; Mixed 11-13 200 Meter Medley Relay, the team of Alyssa Sabartinelli, Brooklyn VanLoo, Nathan Pickering and Zoe Zimmerman, first, 3:00.00, and the team of Megan VanLoo, Zoe Edwards, Tyler Johnston and Kaitlyn Stauffer, second, 3:23.20; Mixed 14-18 200 Meter Medley Relay, the team of Gavin Pickering, Jack Johnston, Kaylee VanLoo and Audrey Pickering, first, 2:36.22.

In the Girls 100 Meter Backstroke, Sarah McCord placed second with 1:52.52; Boys 7-8 25 Meter Backstroke, Gavin Porter first, 25.40, and Kwynn Duvall fourth, 30.91; Girls 7-8 25 Meter Backstroke, Kierstyn Lawson first, 25.72, Isabella Kincaid second, 27.30, and Bennett Gatlin fourth, 30.43; Boys 11-12 50 Meter Backstroke, Garrett Burger fourth, 56.47; Boys 15-18 50 Meter Backstroke, Gavin Pickering first, 36.32; Girls 15-18 50 Meter Backstroke, Audrey Pickering second, 44.44.

In the Girls 7-8 25 Meter Butterfly, Isabella Kincaid placed first with 25.21; Girls 9-10 25 Meter Butterfly, Madison McCord fourth, 27.28; Boys 15-18 50 Meter Butterfly, Luke Burger first, 32.38; Girls 100 Meter Butterfly, Kaylee VanLoo second, 1:26.57.

In the Girls 6 and Under 25 Meter Freestyle, Audra Whittle placed fourth with 41.66; Girls 7-8 25 Meter Freestyle, Isabella Kincaid first, 19.50; Boys 9-10 25 Meter Freestyle, Will Pickering second, 18.23; Boys 11-12 50 Meter Freestyle, Tyler Johnston third, 37.90; Boys 15-18 50 Meter Freestyle, Luke Burger first, 30.69, and Gavin Pickering third, 33.15; Girls 15-18 50 Meter Freestyle, Kaylee VanLoo third, 34.63.

In the Girls 7-8 25 Meter Breaststroke, Mari Miller placed first with 31.57, and Kierstyn Lawson third, 33.50; Girls 9-10 25 Meter Breaststroke, Elizabeth Turner third, 26.07; Boys 11-12 50 Meter Breaststroke, Tyler Johnston second, 47.65; Boys 13-14 50 Meter Breaststroke, Jack Johnston second, 43.04, and Nathan Pickering fourth, 48.06; Girls 13-14 50 Meter Breaststroke, Brooklyn VanLoo first, 44.90; Boys 15-18 50 Meter Breaststroke, Gavin Pickering second, 43.63; Girls 15-18 50 Meter Breaststroke, Audrey Pickering third, 45.16; Boys 100 Meter Breaststroke, Jack Johnston second, 1:33.25; Girls 100 Meter Breaststroke, Brooklyn VanLoo second, 1:40.34, and Audrey Pickering third, 1:43.83.

The Stingrays will be at home at the California Pool today (Wednesday), hosting Eldon.

The championship meet, which is the final meet of the 2014 season for the Mid-Missouri Conference, will be held at Centralia Saturday, July 12.

"We are looking forward to our last two meets," Johnston said. "I think our swimmers are ready to swim their best at the championship meet, and we're expecting lots of personal records and hopefully some club records as well."
