California Area Chamber of Commerce hears MoDot presentation

The California Area Chamber of Commerce Board meeting was called to order by President Becky Lawson, Thursday at 8 a.m. The board approved the minutes and treasurer’s report from the previous meeting.
Board Secretary, Diane Eulinger, distributed a written report noting telephone calls are coming in for the annual Ozark Ham & Turkey Festival.
Natalie Roark, District Design Engineer and Trent Brooks, Traffic Engineer for MoDOT spoke about Constitutional Amendment 7 to be voted on Aug. 5. If approved, the sales tax money would provide an estimated $5.4 billion in funding for transportation projects over 10 years (2015-2025). Ten percent of the money would be split between cities and counties for transportation projects and 90 percent will go toward state transportation initiatives. In committee reports the golf tournament committee, reported the tournament raised $3,265 which was an increase over last year.
Tom Winters, sign committee, reported the committee is still working between city hall and MoDOT getting the information together to proceed with the project.The next phase will include writing specifications for the bid process. Winters and the committee will work on this with the city. It was recommended the Chamber write a letter of commitment to the City Council for the $30,000 set aside for this project.
Brad Baer, chairman of the Ham and Turkey Festival, stated the committee met Monday, June 7. Everything is on schedule and the committee will meet again, Monday, Aug. 4, at 5:30 p.m. The Village Green’s 40th anniversary will be highlighted this year. There will be several activities at Village Green. Plans are to run a bus back and forth from the court house area to the shopping center. The committee is also working on bids for the festival insurance. Advertising and flyers will be coming out soon.
The meeting adjourned. The next scheduled meeting will be held Thursday, Aug. 14, at 8 a.m., in the City Hall meeting room.
