Stokes Softball Tournament well attended

Friday and Saturday was the third annual Kate Stokes Softball Tournament with 10 teams participating. Allan's Team was the winning team. The Latham Recreation Association was proud of the large crowds with over 200 in attendance Friday and 150 Saturday. The Association has several more dates on the calendar for events at the ball field.

Bob and Marilyn Schatzer celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary Friday.

Anna Mary and Lamar Reiff have a new store. Bramble Patch Health Food is officially open and provides a wide variety of health food, as well as, greeting cards, Tupperware, fresh and frozen blackberries. Bramble Patch is located on Rocky Branch Road and phone number is 660-458-6326.

Lance Fulks participated in, and won the steer wrestling in Quarter last weekend. He qualified for the MRCA finals.

Isabella Fulks had a bake sale at summer camp Thursday.

Morgan Fulks went to Kansas City for work, Wednesday-Friday.

Lance, Morgan, Kolten and Isabella, Justin, Gatlin, Chad, Lee and Karen Fulks went to the races Sunday evening at Double XX Speedway.

Morgan and Mandy Fulks attended the wedding reception of Nathan and Bridget Bestgen Saturday evening.

Roberta Gunnerson, Hannah Fulks and Brandi Swillum took 14 children to the Eldon pool Thursday.

Mandy Fulks has been spending time with Amber Pardoe Bolin since the death of her husband Andy. Amber is a former Latham resident and the community sends its sympathy to her.

Maria Newkirk, Amanda Bolinger and Sandra Small took Nicholas, Derek and Ashley Bolinger to Big Surf Saturday and then Jim, Barb, Michael, and Amanda Bolinger went to XX Speedway Sunday to watch Michael's cousin, Aaron Bolinger race in the Battle of the Badges.

Norma Blankenship visited Lula Rohrbach Monday night. Katie and Jake Buschjost were dinner guests of Bill and Norma Sunday.

This past week Jim and Shanay Lepper took Blaise Stuedle to Springfield to prepare for college. Wednesday, Blaise and Wanda Wilde visited B.L. and Edna Dowell.

This past week Jerry Fulks and Ruby Hibdon attended the talk informing folks about the importance of Amendment 1 on the August ballot. Sherry Cox was also there representing the radio station.

Thursday, Julie Fisher brought her grandson Cainan Fisher, Fort Riley, Kan., to the California pool where they met Sherry, Brett, Briar and Jac Cox.

Mary and Charlie McGinnis were visited by Missy Bias and Scott Tittsworth Saturday.

Hayleigh Davis spent Thursday morning at the McGinnis home with Emma Jane Batye. Saturday Mary attended a baby shower for sisters Miranda and Kayla Conley, Linn. The shower was at the home of Randy and Shirley Davenport.

Green Grove Church had 10 in Sunday school and 17 in church. Latham Christian Church recognized Patsy Randall and Ruby Hibdon for their birthdays. Pilot Grove Church had 19 for Sunday school and more for church.

Mandy Allee, Shawn, Patricia, Megan and Grace Higgins were supper guests of Kathy and Jerry Higgins Sunday. Saturday Kathy, Betty Emmerich and Holly Hern attended a craft show in Columbia.

Tuesday Bronc, Cole and I swam at my aunt Hilda Kirchhoff's pool. Wednesday the boys visited Jim and Cheryl Pettigrew. Thursday, Bronc attended the Moniteau County Library program which was about simple machines.

Ike and Ruby Hibdon visited Robert Tuttle Thursday where they traded fresh garden produce with him. Wayne Miller spent time Saturday playing cards with the Hibdons. Sunday Ike, Cole and Bronc and Ruby had lunch in California and swam at the Kirchhoff's pool. Cole went to his grandmother Martreta Battles's home in Clarksburg to enjoy the races. Ike, Bronc and Ruby visited Billy Barnett Sunday.

Carly Messerli joined the Baumgartner family Saturday for the Versailles Horse Show.

Bill Martensen shared with me he has sold his home to Andrew Nolt. He will be moving over by Glensted.

The regular monthly meeting of the Latham Board of Education was held Monday, July 21. Those in attendance were Jenn Hays, James Bonecutter, Kerry Baumgartner, Bobby Medlin, Lance Fulks, Kenny Higgins, Terry and Hannah Fulks.

The Board adopted Option A on local compliance plan for Special Education.

The Board set the lunch prices for breakfast at $1.20 and .30 for reduced, lunch at $2 and .50 for reduced. Bus routes were approved.

The Board will be obtaining needed tools for maintenance use. The Board did a walk through of the old gym. They found many adult size desks, picture books, VHS tapes and adult sized chairs that the school no longer needs. If anyone is interested in purchasing any of these items or would like to look, please call the school.

Bunco is Monday, Aug. 4, in the evening at the school. Snacks begin at 6 and dice rolls at 6:45 p.m. All ladies are welcome to attend.
