Thursday, Feb. 27, was the night of the California second grade musical. Under the direction of Stacy Friedrich, the elementary students performed "It's a Jungle Out There!" in the CHS auditorium.

In addition to the theme song "It's a Jungle Out There" performed at the beginning and end of the program. Other pieces performed by the youth were "King of the Jungle" with a solo by Dillon Wood, "party Animals" featuring the young people portraying cheetas, "Goin' Bananas" featuring those dressed as monkeys, "Everything is Funny to Me" by the hyenas, "Good Friends" performed by the elephants and "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" by the jungle natives.

A large variety of costumes designed by the second grade parents assisted in the musical rendition of an unusual jungle life.

Stripes, a zebra - Madilyn Schmidt - and Spots, a cheeta - Myra Silvey - try to assist King Leo, a lion - Dillon Wood - in his work in ruling the jungle.

Also populating the jungle were cheetas, monkeys, hyenas, elephants and jungle natives.

During the performance, several of the characters mentioned repeatedly the feeling of being watched, as King Leo hid behind a tree at the edge of the stage.
