Wednesday, March 19, 2014
Allan Morris Burger, 17, Son of Philip and Susan Burger, California, began scouting in first grade as a Tiger Cub with Pack 120 in 2003. He advanced through Wolves, Bears and Webelos, earning his Arrow of Light award in 2008.
He crossed over into Troop 120 in February 2008. He attended many summer camps at Hohn Scout Reservation at the Lake of the Ozarks. He went on monthly troop campouts throughout central Missouri. In 2010 he attended the 100 Years of Scouting celebration in Fayette. He is a Brotherhood member of the Order of the Arrow. He did high adventure treks in 2010 and 2012 to Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico. He visited the National Scouting Museum in Irving, Texas, with his family. He earned 39 merit badges, including Scuba Diving (a first for Troop 120).
Within his Troop, Allan has held the offices of Scribe, Patrol leader and Senior Patrol leader. He earned his God and Church Award with the help of his counselor Rev. Collette Jones at California United Church Christ.
For his Eagle Scout project, Allan designed, fabricated and installed the brackets for all the United States flags on the period lampposts around the Moniteau County Courthouse and California City Hall. He also fabricated the actual flag poles and installed the flags with assistance from the California Lions Club, and representative Paul Bloch.
At California High School, Allan plays football, basketball and track. He’s a member of the Chamber Choir and Sounds of Joy. He plays baritone sax in band, is a member of FFA, and is the current President of the school’s chapter of the National Honor Society. He was selected and attended Co-Mo’s Electric Coop’s Cooperative Youth Conference and Leadership Experience, and will be attending Boys State this upcoming summer.
A Court of Honor Ceremony was recently held at California United Church of Christ, where 70+ year veteran Scouter Richard Schroeder spoke about his experiences and the virtues of being an Eagle Scout. Scoutmasters Scott Jobe and Eric Schroeter presented Allan with his Eagle Scout award.
