The Russellville High School varsity boys and girls cross country team was recognized at the state capital Thursday, March 13, as the 2013 Class 1 boys and girls state cross country champions.

The Russellville High School varsity boys and girls cross country teams were invited by Representative Mike Bernskoetter and Senator Mike Kehoe to be introduced as guests of the House of Representatives and Senate Floor Thursday, March 13, where they were recognized as the 2013 Class 1 Boys and Girls State Cross Country champions.

"Each runner, coach and manager was mentioned for both the girls and boys teams and each was recognized for his or her hard work and dedication to the sport," RHS Head Cross Country Coach Craig Miller said.

Following introductions, the group was given a tour of the whispering gallery, which is part of the dome above the main floors, and ultimately led into a more restricted area at the top of the capital, where everyone had the opportunity to enjoy the outside view of Jefferson City and the surrounding area.

"A lot of people don't get to see that," Miller said. "It's the highest point around. I think everyone, including the bus driver, runners, coaches, our athletic director, Superintendent Jerry Hobbs, and the parents who came along, enjoyed the tour of the capital."

Miller said the group capped the outing with a trip to El Jimador Mexican Restaurant before heading back to the school.
