The California Invitational was held April 29 at the California High School track, where the Pintos and Lady Pintos finished in first place.
"This was kind of a nasty day for a track meet but I'm glad we got it in," California Head Coach Rick Edwards said. "Some of our times were a little less, but several athletes ran back-to-back meets which gives them no time for recovery, so it was expected. I was happy with the way we competed."
The Lady Pintos won the girls' division with 102. North Callaway finished second with 94; Helias JV third with 92; Southern Boone fourth with 90; Versailles fifth with 86; Boonville sixth with 85; and Eldon seventh with 78.
The Pintos won the boys' division with 172. Southern Boone finished second with 144; Boonville third with 122; Versailles fourth with 109; North Callaway fifth with 83; and Helias JV sixth with 36.
"The girls' division was pretty balanced at this meet," Edwards said. "There were 22 points separating the eight teams. Eldon has a really good girls team this year, but they brought a split squad; they didn't have their whole team. Our boys' team has been at the top of every meet this season. It was a cold day and all the of the Tri-County teams had a JV meet the night before. I'd say that slowed down some times."
Individual results for the California girls are as follows: In the 100 Meter, Ellie Wirts placed second with 13.4; 100 Meter Hurdles, Rosie Swillum fifth, 19.7; 200 Meter, Wirts second, 28.3, and Haley Admire sixth, 33.6; 300 Meter Hurdles, Jasmine Wells first, 50.24; 800 Meter, Katie Imhoff first, 2:45, and Laney Porter third, 2:54; 1600 Meter, Imhoff first, 6:01.
In the 4x400 Meter Relay, the team of Wells, Porter, Kayla Allison and Imhoff placed second with 4:59.
"Jasmine Wells had a very good 300 time," Edwards said. "Â Katie Imhoff and Laney Porter are two athletes who put forth a lot of effort and they ran well at this meet."Â
In the High Jump, Mattea Adams placed fifth with 4'4", and Cameron Meyer seventh, 4'; Long Jump, Wirts seventh, 13'11"; Triple Jump, Wells fifth, 30'4", and Wirts sixth, 30'; Shot Put, Audrey Pickering third, 32', and Beth Davis fifth, 28'11"; and Discus Throw, Pickering fourth, 77'7", and Meyer seventh, 71'4".
"Right now, our girl throwers are out-performing our guy throwers," Edwards said. "That's off the record!"
Individual results for the California boys are as follows: In the 100 Meter, AJ Kendrick placed sixth with 12.09, and Walker Borghardt seventh, 12.19; 110 Meter Hurdles, Logan Cox fifth, 19.4; 200 Meter, Borghardt fourth, 24.5, and Kendrick sixth, 25.03; 300 Meter Hurdles, Dylan Norton third, 41.7, and Cox eighth, 47.3; 400 Meter, Conner George first, 54.4, and Dylan Albertson second, 54.8; 800 Meter, Benigno Corona first, 2:15, and Ethan Hodges third, 2:18; 1600 Meter, Adam Burkett second, 5:03; 3200 Meter, Micaiah Garcia fifth, 12:39, and Simon Schroeter eighth, 14:43.
"Dylan Norton pr'd in the 300 hurdles and fell, but rolled across the finish line," Edwards said. "I like to see that effort. Logan Cox also ran a nice time and pointed in what was only his second time running that race. Conner George and Dylan Albertson are both first-year guys for us and they have been at the top of the 400 at every meet. They're doing a good job competing for us."Â
In the 4x100 Meter Relay, the team of Seth Fairchild, Sam Cummings, Rudy Wirts and Phillip Strobel placed fifth with 48.7; 4x200 Meter Relay, the team of Fairchild, Norton, Strobel and Wirts, third, 1:41; 4x400 Meter Relay, the team of Albertson, Corona, George and Norton, first, 3:47; 4x800 Meter Relay, the team of Burkett, Mason Albertson, Hodges and Garcia, fourth, 9:49.
"I've also been happy with Ethan Hodges and Benigno Corona," Edwards said. "They have pointed in the 800 at every meet this season and Benigno has been an important part of our 4x400 team. Ethan is consistently one of the fastest times in our 4x800. We have a couple of freshman boys, Sam Cummings and Phillip Strobel, who are helping us score a lot of points. They are multiple-event guys who are going to be key in the track program in years to come."
In the High Jump, Allan Burger placed third with 5'4"; Long Jump, Borghardt second, 19'9", and Kendrick fourth, 19'5"; Triple Jump, Borghardt third, 39'10", and Gunner Baquet fifth, 37'; Pole Vault, Allan Burger first, 11', and Luke Burger third, 11'; Shot Put, Nathan Squires first, 46'11", and Ramiro Garcia second, 43'10"; Discus Throw, Garcia third, 118'1", and Alexx Lewis fifth, 115'8".
Previously, the JV Pintos and Lady Pintos competed at the Tri-County Conference Meet April 28 at Eldon, where the California JV boys finished in third place with 112. Eldon placed first with 181, Osage second with 178, Blair Oaks fourth with 65, Southern Boone fifth with 55.6, Hallsville sixth with 44, Versailles seventh with 27, and Warsaw eighth with 22.
The California JV girls placed fourth with 88. Eldon finished first with 168, Osage second with 118, Blair Oaks third with 100, Versailles fifth with 73, Warsaw sixth with 46, and Hallsville seventh with 37.
"We won four events on the boys' side," Edwards said. "Adam Burkett won the 1600 and the 3200 running a 4:59 and a 10:58, and Ethan Hodges won the 800 with a 2:15 and AJ Kendrick won the long jump with 19'3". Kendrick also placed third in the triple at 36'7" and Sam Cummings placed third in the high jump with 5'6"."
Individual results for the Pintos are as follows: In the 100 Meter, Kendrick placed fifth with 12.2; 200 Meter, Strobel sixth, 25.4; 110 Meter Hurdles, Cox eighth, 19.08; 300 Meter Hurdles, Cox fifth, 46.7; 400 Meter, Zane Safley seventh, 59.5.
In the 4x200 Meter Relay, the team of Chris Menchaca, Cummings, Strobel and Kendrick placed fourth with 1:45; 4x400 Meter Relay, team of Safley, Strobel, Cummings and Cox, fourth; and 4x800 Meter Relay, team of Burkett, Hodges, Mason Albertson and Micaiah Garcia, fourth, 9:31; Triple Jump, Baquet fourth, 36'1"; High Jump, Safley fifth, 5'; Pole Vault, Cox fourth, 10'; Discus Throw, Hunter RuBert fifth, 101'9"; and Shot Put, RuBert fourth, 36'6", and Hunter Bookout sixth, 31'7".
"We won four events in the girls' division," Edwards said. "Aujdrey Pickering won the shot and the discus with a pr of 35'2" in the shot and 88'3" in the discus. Katie Imhoff won the 1600 at 5:57 and Ellie Wirts won the 200 with a time of 28.9. Ellie also placed second in the 100 at 14.3. Cameron Meyer placed second in the shot with 30'5", and Kayla Allison finished seoncd in the 300 hurdles at 53.4.Our throwers had a good day and Ellie and Kayla ran well. We have a strong group of freshman and sophomore girls. I've been happy with their progression throughout the season."Â
Individual results for the Lady Pintos are as follows: In the 100 Meter Hurdles, Gammon placed sixth with 22.0, and Anna Thibon eighth, 22.5; 400 Meter, Gammon seventh, 1:17; 1600 Meter, Porter fifth, 6:37; Long Jump, Wirts fourth, 13'6", and Allison eighth, 12'5"; Triple Jump, Wirts fifth, 29'; Pole Vault, Allison sixth, 8'; and Discus Throw, Meyer eighth, 74'9".
