Pintos wrap up week on the road with win at Harrisburg

The California Pintos were on the road last week, where they started off with a loss at Warsaw, but finished with a win at Harrisburg.

"It was a busy week that started off rough, but we finished well at Harrisburg," California Coach Jason Gatlin said. "We hope to finish the season strong."

California will wrap up the regular season with away games against Blair Oaks Tuesday, May 13, before heading into district play at Montgomery City beginning May 17.

The Pintos traveled to Warsaw April 28, where they lost a close contest to the Wildcats, 2-1.

After an even 1-1 first inning, the Pintos were unable to score, while the Wildcats managed one run in the third inning and held on for the win, 2-1.

Zach Holliday recorded the loss with four strikeouts.

"Zach pitched a really good, complete game," Gatlin said.

Alex Dalbey led California hits with two, while Bret Volmert had one.

"We faced one of the best pitchers we've seen all year and had some good hits," Gatlin said.

California's JV defeated Warsaw 12-3.

Eli Freeman pitched 3.1 innings for the Pintos and recorded four strikeouts, and Dalbey pitched one inning and recorded three strikeouts.

Sam Kirby led California's JV hits with two and had two RBI. Freeman also had two hits, and Hunter Hess had two RBI.

The Pintos traveled to Ashland April 29, where they suffered an 8-3 loss to the Southern Boone Eagles.

After two innings, the score was even at 3-3, however, the Eagles added one run in the third inning and four in the fourth, while holding the Pintos scoreless for the remainder of the contest to secure the win.

Burke Brant pitched 3.1 innings and Jaden Barr pitched 2.2 innings and recorded two strikeouts.

Landon Mouse led California hits with two and Brant had two RBI.

The Pintos traveled to Harrisburg Thursday, where California captured a 9-6 win from the Bulldogs.

Harrisburg led 4-3 after three innings and 6-5 after four innings, however, the Pintos went on to hold the Bulldogs scoreless for the remainder of the contest, while scoring runs in all but the sixth inning to secure a 9-2 win.

Mouse recorded the win with one strikeout.

The Pintos had 12 hits to the Bulldogs' seven hits. Volmert led California hits with four, and Barr had two. Austin Gump contributed three RBI, while J.T. Trachsel had two.

California's JV lost to Harrisburg 6-2.

Brayden Ash pitched two innings for the JV Pintos and recorded two strikeouts. Gary Bland pitched 1.1 innings and recorded two strikeouts.

Hunter Heimericks led California hits with two, and had one RBI. Jackson Trachsel contributed one hit.

California's JV participated in the Blair Oaks JV Tournament Saturday at Wardsville, where the Pintos finished in third place.

California started off the day with a tough 18-0 loss to Blair Oaks, then defeated South Callaway 7-1.

The Pintos were on the road Monday for games against Battle High School at Columbia, where California lost 4-2 to the Spartans.

The JV Pintos also lost, 3-2.

California (10-7) will play Blair Oaks at 5 p.m. Tuesday, May 13, at Wardsville.
