Most human-bear encounters end harmlessly, but sometimes injuries or property damage result.

California Elementary School hosted Muffins for Mom, a special breakfast for an elementary student and their mother, aunt, grandmother or any female role model, Wednesday, Oct. 1, from 7 - 8 a.m.

Students in kindergarten through fifth grade along with moms attended and had breakfast made by the elementary cooks.

This event was organized by the elementary staff to build relationships with the moms of the students as well as a way to promote how important their involvement is within the education of their child.

According to Dale Graff, Food Service Director, the elementary kitchen staff arrived at 6:15 a.m. to prepare and serve biscuits and gravy, cereal, fruit, milk and juice to a approximately 160 moms and 365 students. "This is a good event with a large turnout every year," according to Graff.

After breakfast moms, who could stay for a while, were invited to go to the student's classroom and observe the classroom environment.

Fathers are important to the school and students as well. Friday, Oct. 10, beginning at 7 a.m., Donuts with Dads will be held in the cafeteria for the male role models of students.
