Four dead in head-on collision

A two-car head-on collision on Friday, Oct. 10, in Morgan County resulted in the death four adults and serious injuries to two children.

According to a Missouri Highway Patrol report, the collision occurred at 8:30 p.m. Friday on Highway 50, 636 feet east of Highway 135, as an eastbound 1999 Chevy Malibu, driven by Kelsey N. Toebben, Jefferson City, was attempting to pass a tractor-trailer unit when it struck head-on a westbound 2005 Volvo S60 driven by Phillip H. Allen, Rolla. Both vehicles were reported to have come to rest partially on the highway.

Both drivers died, as did a passenger in the Toebben vehicle, Justin W. Gaddis, Knob Noster, and a passenger in the Allen vehicle, Carin Allen, also of Rolla.

Two children in the Allen vehicle were transported to medical facilities with serious injuries, one by LifeFlight Eagle to Children's Mercy Hospital, Kansas City, and the other by ambulance to University Hospital, Columbia.

The patrol reported both drivers and all passengers were wearing seat belts. The report also indicated both vehicles were totaled.
