The Library "Smartypants Trivia Challenge" fundraiser drew eight teams of participants in the trivia contest held at the California United Church of Christ on Saturday, Oct. 25.

With the help of the Library Board members and other interested library patrons, the event came off with humor and success in bringing in some funds to help offset technology costs for Moniteau County Library at Wood Place. As a case in point, the library had been paying $1,800 a year to for Rural Access for Libraries (REAL) through MORENet. It is now $7,800 a year. "We didn't realize how much the state subsidies amounted to," said Walker.

Of the eight teams, the winner was the team known as "Out of our Minds." Team members were Rudy Schroeder, Chris Carmody, Harvey and Ann Tettlebaum, JD and Ilene Gattermier, Dennis Donley and Brad Baer. There were a total of 10 categories. Examples of questions were: "Who said, "Give me golf clubs, fresh air and a beautiful partner, and you can keep the clubs and the fresh air.'?" and "Who wrote the book "Fifty Shades of Grey' ?".

According to Librarian Connie Walker, the cost was $100 a table to play, but thanks to the generosity of the local patrons, $2,057 was raised, since people arrived and donated, saying they were unable to participate in the actual event. Walker said the library staff and board really appreciate support of the library patrons and the community.
