Local official arrested after Columbia pickup-building crash

A crash in Columbia at Addison's restaurant on Saturday, Oct. 25, resulted in the arrest of Moniteau County Prosecuting Attorney Shayne Healea. According to reports, Healea backed a truck into a wall of Addison's Grill about 7:30 p.m., then drove away, parking a short distance away in front of the Tiger Hotel, and got out of the vehicle.

The part of the wall hit by the lowered tailgate of the backing Ford F-150 crew cab pickup was a nine by four foot section made of glass building blocks which shattered, sending broken glass into the restaurant. Four people were reported to have sustained injuries from the debris which flew into the restaurant dining area.

Healea was reported to have been arrested at the scene on suspicion of leaving the scene of an accident, and four counts of second degree assault. If there is injury resulting from an incident, leaving the scene of an accident is a Class D Felony. The assault charges could be Class C Felony charges.

He was released on bond of $22,500.

The following statement was released by Healea: "On the evening of October 25, 2014, I was in downtown Columbia to pick up some friends and take them home. Apparently, while turning around in a small parking lot, my lowered tailgate contacted a glass block window without my knowledge. As I was driving less than a block away from this parking lot, an individual advised me of the accident and I immediately returned. I identified myself to police as the driver. Police took me into custody and their investigation continues. Because there is a criminal investigation underway, I can make no further comment on this matter until it is concluded. I am deeply concerned for those who were injured by the damaged glass block window, and my thoughts and prayers are with them all."
