The "Ice Bucket Challenge" which has raised money for and awareness of the ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) Association has reached California.

In response to a challenge from C&R Corporate, management and employees of the local C&R Supermarket have been taking the "Ice Bucket Challenge" and challenging others to take the "plunge." Manager David Ratliff took the challenge on Monday, and then issued a challenge to several other employees. On Tuesday, those challenged - Joe Miller, Kelly Miller, Ashley Ratliff and Sara Wetzig - went ahead with it. Each of the four issued challenges to others.

ALS is commonly known as Lou Gehrig's disease. Tens of thousands of Americans have ALS. It attacks nerve cells, eventually leading to total paralysis of the body, and death in two to five years from diagnosis. It doesn't appear to affect the mind.
