Jamestown Baseball

The Jamestown varsity baseball team traveled to Higbee Sept. 2, where the Eagles defeated the Tigers 10-2.

Jamestown scored four runs in the first inning and led 4-0 until Higbee added one run in the third and another in the fourth to trail 4-2. The Eagles scored one run in the fifth, one in the sixth and four in the seventh while holding the Tigers scoreless for the remainder of the game to secure the win, 10-2.

Colton DeVore recorded the win, pitching seven innings with 12 strikeouts and only two hits.

"Colton pitched extremely well for us and is showing some great improvements so far this season," Jamestown Coach Jordan Hoecker said. "Our at-bats have also improved since our first game, and the guys are starting to figure some things out offensively. This game was a lot cleaner and a good bounce back from the season opener."

Alex Gerlach led Jamestown hits with a double, two singles and two RBI. Garrett Wolfe followed with two singles and three RBI. Bryan Reno contributed a single.

The Eagles will travel to New Franklin Friday. The varsity game will begin at 5 p.m.

Russellville Baseball

Russellville hosted Jamestown Aug. 28, where both the varsity and JV defeated the Eagles. Russellville's varsity won 12-2 in six innings. Seth Kuda recorded the win, pitching four innings and recording three strikeouts. Kuda allowed four hits. Isaac Kirchner pitched two innings where he allowed three hits.

Kirchner led Russellville hits with three singles and three RBI. Zach Voss had two singles and two RBI, and Ryland Johnson had three singles. Tyler Voss and Caleb Harrison each had a single and two RBI, and Cole Dawson had two singles and one RBI.

"Our guys did a really nice job at the plate and running the bases," Russellville Coach Lucas Branson said. "That was an area we had focused on in practice, so it was good to see us take some things from practice to the game."

Russellville's JV defeated Jamestown 5-1 in three innings. Voss recorded the win with three strikeouts in two innings. Cory Minor pitched one inning and recorded two strikeouts. Jordan Malzner led Russellville hits with a single and one RBI. Minor contributed a single and Noah Stubinger had one RBI.

Russellville will co-host the AA Baseball Bash with Eugene Friday-Sunday.

Prairie Home Softball

The Lady Panthers traveled to Jamestown Thursday night, where they suffered a 16-8 loss to the Lady Eagles. Prairie Home's Makayla Zey pitched 3 1/2 innings and allowed five hits. Kurstin Leonard pitched 3 2/3 innings, recording one strikeout and allowing three hits.

Jamestown's Stephanie Birkmann recorded the win with seven strikeouts.

Josie Flood led Prairie Home hits with a double, a single and two RBI. Amber Carmichael had two singles and two RBI. Brooke Emmerich had a triple and a single, and Rachel Distler had a single and two RBI. Leonard had a single and one RBI, and Kristen Peterson had two singles.

"Both tams hit the ball well," Prairie Home Coach Linda Scott said. "We just worked our pitchers to death with unforced errors. It's time to move people around to find player's positions. Alli Small made a diving catch at right field which was a highlight of the game. Our pitching was off, so we were lucky the score was that close. It's early in the season, so we will get it together."

Prairie Home will host Pilot Grove at 5 p.m. Thursday.

Prairie Home Baseball

The Prairie Home Panthers hosted Bunceton Aug. 29, where they defeated the Dragons 4-0.

The Panthers scored one run in the second, two in the third and one in the sixth inning while holding Bunceton scoreless to secure the win.

"Overall the game went well," Prairie Home Coach Jessica Scott said. "The boys did a great job on defense, to stop Bunceton from scoring. We need to be more aggressive at the plate for the rest of the season, but it's great to start off the season with a win."

Klay Holliday led Panther hits with a homerun, a single and one RBI. Rayce Kendrick followed with a double and two RBI.

The Panthers will host Pilot Grove at 7 p.m. Thursday.
