Latham CTO holds meeting to assist school

The Latham CTO met Wednesday evening with 13 present. A new process for donations was discussed. Other business included the idea of a scholarship program. A committee will be formed for this. The CTO will be providing snacks for after school concerts. Goals of the CTO were mentioned and it was determined that the group will begin with one big fundraiser a year, most likely a Spring Fling carnival in March or April. A basketball tournament to raise money for an additional score board was brought up. Meetings will be held the first Wednesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. at the school. CTO will be doing the concession stands at the volleyball games and at the volleyball ball tournament Oct. 4. A motion was made and carried for the CTO to pay half of the remaining cost of the AED defibrillator after the fundraiser profits are totaled.

School pictures were taken Thursday by Inter-State Photo. The rain and mud kept the students inside for the week until Friday.

An invitation to grandparents went home Friday with the students. Grandparents are invited to have breakfast Sept. 12 with the school children. Please be sure you are counted so the school has plenty of food for everyone.

Back to school "bugs" hit the students hard this past week. Many students were absent for all sorts of different illnesses.

A reminder the school collects Box Tops, Best Choice Labels, Coke points and Cal's receipts. These all provide free money and school items for the school.

Many from the Latham community were guests of John and Rita Anderson's on Labor Day for a fish fry at the Tipton Park.

Mandy and Gatlin Fulks attended a family shower for Mandy's sister Jamie Volkart Sunday.

Bethany Stuedle had a birthday party Saturday at the lake, home of Jim and Belva Gerke. Those attending were Jackie Hibdon, Megan Higgins, Katelyn Turner, Shawn Shewmaker, Trisha and Haylee Berve and Mark Leath. Sunday lunch guests of Jim and Belva Gerke for family birthdays were B.L. and Edna Dowell, Greg and Wanda Wilde, Shawna Shewmaker, Trisha and Haylee Berve, Mark Leath, Shanay Lepper, Blaise and Bethany Stuedle, Ashtyn Higgins, Ben, Jess, Madelyn Gerke and Chase.

Last Saturday Bill and Norma Blankenship, Eddie and Joan Blankenship met Bill and Marie Wehmeir and Jim and Mary Allee for lunch and attended a Royals game.

This week Bill and Norma and Lula Rohrbach attended the Finke Theatre and saw a tribute to George Strait.

This week at the Latham Recreation Ball field, Bonecutter beat Trevor and Red beat Rachel.

Thursday evening Ruby and Bronc Hibdon enjoyed the circus in Versailles.

Saturday morning Terri Rush stopped by the Hibdon's for a visit.

Saturday evening Cole Pettigrew and Bronc spent the night with grandparents Jim and Cheryl Pettigrew. Sunday Ike and Ruby Hibdon along with 14 others from the Hibdon family attended the funeral of Tara Bass Mauldin in Springfield. She was the daughter of Danny Bass.

Jerry Fulks reported a family trail ride was held Sunday.

Justin, Mandy, Gatlin, Lance, Morgan, Kolten, Isabella Fulks and Myra Haas enjoyed the beautiful day riding in the wagon on the mules and horses.

Pilot Grove Baptist had 22 for Sunday school with 14 more coming for church.

Rachel Roper, Kaesin and Taelin Schatzer were in this weekend for a visit with Shelbie Schatzer.

A bit of sadness is going on around the home of Bronc Hibdon this week. His beloved dog, Opossum, has turned up missing. He is a short legged black and brown brindle that weighs about 10 pounds. If you have seen him please give us a call, he is really missed.
