Russellville Baseball

Russellville hosted Prairie Home Sept. 8, where the Indians captured a 10-6 win from the Panthers. Caleb Harrison recorded the win with four strikeouts. Zach Voss pitched 2.2 innings and recorded three strikeouts.

Harrison led Russellville hits with a double and two RBI. Jordan Malzner had two singles, and Ryland Johnson and Zach Voss each contributed a single and one RBI.

Russellville will host Tuscumbia at 5 p.m. Thursday.

Russellville Softball

Russellville lost to New Bloomfield 16-6

The Lady Indians traveled to New Bloomfield Sept. 4, where Russellville suffered a 16-6 loss.

"The game was a lot closer then what the score shows," Russellville Coach Trisha Volkart said. "We were leading 5-1 going into the second inning."  

Adrianna Basnett recorded the loss with one strikeout. McKendra Fischer led Russellville hits with a double, a single and one RBI. Madie Bungart had two singles, and Libby Mueller and Basnett each contributed a single and RBI. Ally Harris also had a single.

Russellville will host Versailles at 5 p.m. Thursday.

Jamestown Baseball

The Eagles traveled to New Franklin Friday, where Jamestown lost a close contest to the Bulldogs, 7-6.

New Franklin led 5-1 going into the fifth inning. The Eagles scored one run in the fifth and the Bulldogs scored two to lead 7-2. Jamestown made a comeback in the seventh inning with four runs, but it wasn't enough to pull off the win.

"We dug ourselves a hole with errors, but Dolton did a really nice job on the mound to keep us in the game," Jamestown Coach Jordan Hoecker said. "Our hitting got progressively better throughout the night and we gave ourselves an opportunity to win in the last inning against a very solid team. We just have to get better in the early stages of the game and back our pitchers up with good defense."

Colton DeVore pitching five innings for Jamestown, and recorded five strikeouts. Alex Gerlach pitched one inning and recorded one strikeout.

DeVore led Jamestown hits with a single and two RBI. Gerlach and Evan Knierim each had two singles.

Previously, Jamestown hosted Calvary Lutheran Thursday, where the Eagles lost 6-5. Garrett Wolfe pitched the entire game for Jamestown and recorded 10 strikeouts.

"We got off to a slow start and gave Calvary some opportunities they took advantage of," Hoecker said. "Wolfe ended the game strong on the mound, but early errors, walks and hit by pitches dug the hole early. I give our guys credit for clawing their way back to give us a real chance to win this one."

Knierim led Jamestown hits with a home run and two RBI. Gerlach had a double and a single, and DeVore contributed two singles.

Jamestown hosted Pilot Grove Sept. 9, where the Eagles suffered a 7-0 loss to the Tigers.

"When the defense commits nine errors, it's going to be near impossible to pull off the win," Hoecker said. "Especially when the offense isn't going. Two hits with 13 strikeouts and 12 guys left on base will not cut it. We have to get better."

Gerlach pitched four innings and recorded six strikeouts. devote pitched 1.1 and had two strikeouts. Knierim pitched one inning and recorded two strikeouts.

Wolfe led Jamestown hits with two singles.

Jamestown will host Otterville at 5 p.m. Thursday.

Prairie Home Softball

The Lady Panthers traveled to Higbee for a double-header Sept. 9, where Prairie Home lost the first game 7-6, then won the second 17-11.

Regarding the win, Prairie Home Coach Glenda Scott said, "Our bats came alive and we had fewer errors in the second game. Makayla Zey pitched 13 innings and was strong in the last three. Our defense was much better in this game. We hit the ball hard and played as a team. Brooke Emmerich and Kristen Peterson had good hits, and Josie Flood had a big night with three hits and five RBI."

Zey recorded the win with eight strikeouts.

Flood had a double, two singles and five RBI. Emmerich had a triple, a single and one RBI. Rachel Distler had a triple and two RBI. Kurstin Leonard had a double and one RBI, and Haven Pennington had a double and one RBI.

Zey recorded two strikeouts in the first game against Higbee.

Ally Small led Prairie Home hits with a double and one RBI. Pennington had a single and two RBI and Amber Carmichael had two singles and one RBI. Distler contributed a triple.

The Lady Panthers will participate in the Fayette Tournament Saturday.
