California runners compete at Linn Invitational

The California High School cross country team competed at the Linn Invitational Saturday, where several California runners garnered medals with their top finishes.

"Overall, I know some of our kids were disappointed with the team scores, but you have to stay optimistic," California Head Coach Kenny Goans said. "If each runner can cut 40-60 seconds off of his or her time, that makes a big difference. A total of 10 of our 14 runners had a personal record for this season."

In the girls' division at the Linn Invitational, Jasmine Wells led California with a time of 22:52 to medal in 15th place. Katie Imhoff was close behind to medal in 22nd place with 23:16.

In the boys' division, Adam Burkett led the Pintos to finish 19th, medaling with a time of 18:47.

"Micaiah Garcia and Hunter Carpenter ran a solid race in the field of 146 boys," Goans said. "Jacob Collier, who has really struggled with some shin splints, ran a personal best in the JV race."

Goans added, "Katie Imhoff and Jasmine Wells came out a little too fast, but I'd rather see a gutsy race this time of year instead of them holding back."

Fatima won the girls' division with 34 points, while Owensville placed second with 75 points, followed by Blair Oaks with 96.

Fatima also won the boys' division, with 56 points. Owensville finished second with 59, followed by Russellville with 88 points.

Russellville's Alex Thompson led the boys' division with 17:15.71.

The CHS cross country runners will compete in a meet at Fulton at 10 a.m. Saturday.
