JV Lady Indians defeat Chamois Lady Pirates

The Russellville High School volleyball teams hosted Chamois Sept. 4, where the JV Lady Indians captured a match win. After losing the first set 16-25, the Lady Indians came back to win the next sets 25-8 and 15-4 to claim the win.

Russellville's varsity lost 23-25 and 22-25.

"We're working hard at playing as a team," Russellville Coach Shelly Korte said. "I'm hoping what we continue to work on in practice will carry onto our games. I've told the girls volleyball is not only a physical game, but a mental game as well, so we're working on that area too."

The Lady Indians traveled to Linn Sept. 8, where the varsity lost 16-25 and 8-25, and the JV lost 20-25 and 22-25.

Russellville hosted Father Tolton Thursday night, where both the varsity and JV suffered a loss.

The varsity lost 16-25, 25-22 and 14-25, while the JV Lady Indians lost 25-16, 9-25 and 14-16.

"The Lady Indians played much more intense against Father Tolton," Korte said regarding Russellville's varsity match. "We had lots of blocks and dug a lot of hits. I also felt like our serve receive and overall passing was better. I hope we continue to build on this game. Even though we didn't end up on the winning side, our attitudes and overall team play was a victory."

Russellville's JV traveled to Bunceton Friday, where the Lady Indians defeated the Lady Dragons 25-23 and 25-16.

Russellville's varsity participated in the Tipton Volleyball Tournament Saturday, where the Lady Indians ultimately faced off with the host (Tipton) for third place, losing 19-15 and 9-25 to finish in fourth place.

"The Lady Indians started off strong with close games in pool play, but when we got to the third place game, we didn't play with any communication or intensity," Korte said. "We are also trying to recover from injuries with Halie Dampf, Grace Eberhart, Erica Miller, Rachel Verslues and Haley Windsor. I think once we get everyone back healthy, we will turn our play around."

Previously in pool play at the Tipton Tourney, the Lady Indians ended their first match against Tipton in a split, 28-26 and 21-25, then lost to Hallsville 23-25 and 21-25, as well as Centralia, 9-25 and 23-25.

Russellville will host Southern Boone at 6 p.m. Thursday.
